Your friends were idiots for leaving the purse where it could be seen. Keep ALL valuables out of sight is rule #1 when parking anywhere. Even if you are only gone a few seconds, things happen pretty fast.
I left my car open for 5 minutes to run into a restaurant to pick up my takeout order. My recorded music and pool cue were gone when I got back. This happened in a city that is so whitebread it makes Frostbite Falls look like South Central.
Just push the unlock button once, unless the back door or trunk has to also be opened for larger packages.
Yes.

The politically correct call it profiling.
Those with some sense just call it a hunch.
Well, now, everywhere is pretty much NYC in the old days.
Exactly true ! .. I heard it myself
The smartest and most accurate statement made by any legislator in the last 6 years
was the statement by South Carolinian who stated during the State of the Union address
when he stated boldly to the pResident :"YOU LIE !!
I once went to NYC to visit a friend; I stayed overnight in his apartment.
He warned me not to have any coins visible inside my car because thieves would use a center punch to pop a window and take whatever they could find.
I asked him if there was some lower limit. Would the break the window for a nickel? For a penny?
He said he was sure they’d break in to get a quarter.
This was almost 30 years ago.
I never leave my purse in plain sight in my car, even in the church parking lot. Foolish thing to do with thugs around.
Can you tell I grew up in NYC back in the bad old days? We learned it all the hard way. Sorry for your friends!

Lemme guess....
Is it just blacks that car jack. Guess whites don’t have the athleticism to pull it off.
Community organizers at work.
Exactly.
"...The alleged robber was described as male, 6'1" in height, wearing a blue knitted cap, gray hooded sweatshirt with oil stain on left cuff, blue pants with 1-inch triangular rip on the right knee, red Nike sneakers with yellow details, white socks, a thin mustache, and a digital Casio wristwatch with a minor scratch on the bezel. Be on the lookout..."It would almost be comical if it were not so pro-criminal and utterly predictable in frequency.
That function doesn’t work on all vehicles.
“.....Want to fire a black? and they file a claim based on racism, ask them if they were BLACK when they were hired. ...”
Now that there is profound. :)
There. Fixed it.
Exactly right. NEVER leave a purse unattended in the car — even at church. There has been a rash of thefts around here from church parking lots.
My son stopped overnight in Waco to visit my daughter (a student at Baylor) on his way back to his classes at Texas Tech in Lubbock back in the 1970s. There had been a snow storm, and he had his ice scraper stolen out of his car over night. Under the circumstances, that was almost as bad as having someone steal the shoes off of your horse!
LOL, totally agree with your friend’s estimate.
