A man was killed in a Christmas Eve shooting inside the crowded Oakwood Center mall, and a suspect has been arrested, the Jefferson Parish sheriff said.
Sheriff Newell Normand said the shooting occurred about 4:20 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 24) at the Footlocker shoe store.
The victim, identified by authorities as 24-year-old Harvey resident James Vaughn, had just made a purchase when a gunman walked up and opened fire from about three feet away, Normand said. At least three shots were fired, he said.
The gunman ran, but a suspect was taken into custody several blocks away from the mall after a chase, Normand said. That suspect has been identified by JPSO as 25-year-old Gary M. Francois, of Marrero.
There were no other injuries and no other shooters, the sheriff said. He said investigators are trying to determine the motive.

This is truly horrible and tragic, but thank goodness the murdered black man was killed by another black man instead of a white cop because apparently that will be acceptable to Obama, Holder, Sharpton, Jesse, and de Blasio. For sure none of them will be calling for nationwide protests that devolve into looting and rioting since black mens’ lives only matter if killed by white cops.
The crowd at that mall on a good day make the Ferguson protesters look like Rhodes Scholars.
The victim was black.
My neighbor was working at the mall. She said she was 10ft away when the gunshots rang out. She said it was total pandemonium.
She was standing in entrance to Dillards and the Foot Locker is right there.
Local cops say she had too many Mennonite.
How many of the Africanesque residents of this and other cities, percentage wise, are Muslim “Converts” do you suppose?
How closely are the inner city Jihad cells associated with the street gangs?
Islam is apparently aggressively proselytizing in the prison system and a lot of the inmates are coming out Muslim.
How many of the perps involved in attacks on Police in NYC of late just happened to be of the “Allahu Achbwah” persuasion?
The Muslim influence in Ferguson wasn’t all that subtle IMHO and I would be surprised if the Muslim Brotherhood isn’t involved in organizing and promoting a lot of this “racial discord” in order to advance an “American Spring” revolution and take over.
Can there be any doubt that Caliph Obeyme and his regime are right on board with the American Spring Islamic revolutionary agenda?
The Communists who were behind all the riots in the 1960s and 70s are still in the game but now allied with the Islamic Supremacists.
It’s a little more complicated now, but every bit as dangerous.

Police say Vaughn has been arrested for numerous counts of parole violation, illegal carrying a concealed weapon, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of cocaine, aggravated battery, resisting arrest, simple assault, aggravated criminal damage, simple battery, theft and numerous counts of contempt of court.
The bullsh*t of “let ‘em riot” mentality of Ferguson and NYC, is rearing its ugly head and emboldening these actions!
Oakwood used to be a pretty nice place back around the mid 70’s. Ex-wife used to work in the major dept. store there back then. I drove down Ge, DeGaule Dr. in ‘03 to where we used to live, turned around and departed when I saw how it had changed.
Not a Muslim thing here. The black Muslim thing is more a non-southern thing. Down here they generally belong to a neighborhood baptist church run by some flim flammer in a flashy car. There’s a sizable Muslim population near Wall and Lapalco. They literally bought the entire street of Realty Dr.
