EXCLUSIVE: Central Park Five seek an additional $52 million after reaching $41 million settlement for wrongful imprisonment in 1989 rape of jogger The five men who were wrongfully jailed for the 1986 rape of a Central Park jogger are pursuing $52 million in damages from the state in the Court of Claims after winning a landmark $41 million settlement from the city. Myron Beldock, attorney for four of the five men, dismissed any notion that the group had already pocketed enough taxpayer money.
After winning a landmark $41 million settlement from the city, the Central Park Five are looking to make New York State pay even more for their time behind bars, the Daily News has learned.
The quintet, wrongfully jailed for years in the 1989 rape and assault of a jogger, are now pursuing $52 million in damages from the state in the Court of Claims.
Their individual claims were reactivated after the deal with the city was approved in Manhattan Federal Court in September.

Madness. Is it any wonder the Holder ferals think they are accountable for nothing, and that they can get away with anything?
They had a story a few months ago of an ILLEGAL who was busted multiple times in New York city for theft and each time he claimed police brutality and WON money damages. I’ll try to find the link. People think I’m exaggerating when I call New York city the capital of leftist sewage, I grew up there and trust me, there is not a city on this earth more leftist than than puke hole. There’s a reason Obama went there more times than any other city for fundraisers.
Hey it’s just attorney fees...: )
Raymond Santana (left) with former New York City Councilman Charles Barron (right). Santana seeks $8 million in state Court of Claims. He already won $7.125 million in Federal court.
Just a recap of what these nice boys did:
“The 28-year-old investment banker Trisha Meili was violently assaulted while jogging in the park. She was raped and beaten almost to death. When found about four hours later at 1:30 am, she was suffering from severe hypothermia and blood loss from multiple lacerations and internal bleeding, and her skull had been fractured so badly that her left eye was removed from the socket. The initial medical prognosis was that she would die or, at best, remain in a permanent coma due to her injuries. Remarkably, she largely recovered, with some lingering disabilities related to balance and loss of vision.”
Just think: These punks who raped her are millionaires but one can only imagine besides the physical and mental costs what her financial costs have been as well, if she's in massive debt, owes a ton in medical costs. This ticks me off so much it's insane. BTW these punks all told the same story in separate interrogations. If they were innocent how could they tell the same story on how they raped her? This is probably one of the most outrageous things I've heard liberals doing, making millionaires of rapists and attempted murderers, just completely off the charts in insanity.
The victim and the others attacked in central park that night should bring a law suit against the city and the perps to get some if not all of the monies they are handing out to the criminals
Actually I can’t see how she’s wearing a glass eye in that photo. But she obviously suffered and glad to see her doing well.
The only thing that's wrong is that they're out walking around.
The eyes are looking in different directions because the one on her left is fake, a glass eye.
Umm, no, Matias Reyes was the true rapist as proven by DNA tests.
I believe the issue here is that the punks who were “wrongfully” convicted in this case were complicit in the attack even if that Reyes dude was the one who actually raped her. They were convicted because there was overwhelming evidence against them — including their descriptions to the police of the events that night (which included information that they would not have known unless they were there).
Infuriating.
And the fact that DNA test proved it was the ONE convict sitting in prison means nothing?
Having said that, these guys were railroaded but I also think they received a fair settlement for what happened to them. A settlement that they agreed to. Another $50 million is overkill and I'm sure is due in no small part to some lawyer looking for a payday.
It is a well known fact that interrogators often supply facts about the case to suspects over the course of lengthy interrogations. I'm not saying that is the case here, just a possibility as to how they knew information that make them appear to be at the scene.
My point was that we cannot make a blanket claim that these boys, who are now men, were involved in any way shape or form. Nor can we say they are guilty as sin. Especially since the DNA evidence clearly puts Reyes at the scene while there is no DNA evidence putting the ones originally convicted at the scene.
So do I think they need to win more money? No. They have been fairly compensated.
People confessing to crimes they didn't commit requires Understanding the Mystery of False Confessions.
A DNA test tied the convict to the rape.
The city does not have sovereign immunity, but the State does.
Will they waive it?
Have the 5 already spent the $41 mil?
DNA wasn't the evidence that convicted the "Central Park Five." It's hard to believe now, but in 1989 DNA was rarely used to convict anyone, so it wouldn't have been carefully collected by police investigators. DNA identifications had only been invented a few years earlier and were not even permitted in New York courts until six months before the Central Park wilding.
All those charged with the jogger's rape gave detailed, corroborated, videotaped confessions, after full Miranda warnings, four of the five in the presence of an adult relative.
This is newly minted millionaire Antron McCrays confession. Does this sound like someone who is innocent to you?
"Everybody started hitting her and stuff. She was on the ground, everybody stompin' and everything. ... I grabbed one arm, some other kid grabbed one arm and we grabbed her legs and stuff. Then we all took turns getting on her, getting on top of her. ... I just like, my penis wasn't in her. I didn't do nothing to her ... I was just doing it so everybody ... Everybody would just like, would know I did it."
