How do we get these researchers to not research hockey??
Great; more pajama boys.
Why the focus on the US sport out of the Daily Wail? Are they going to campaign for banning rugby as well, where the players wear no protection?
The pussification of America continues....
Perhaps that explains the level of imbecility displayed by these St. Louis Rams players yesterday...
Well then I’m royally screwed. I played for 5 years.
CC
I played football in Jr. High and High School, 2nd string and proud of it; got my share of getting knocked on my butt.
My mind is as sound as a, as a, as a, as a...what was the question?
Oh, yeah, now I'm just old...
A smack to the head with an 85 mph fastball can do the same.
Ban all sports now so the inept can keep up!
With the way MRI and CT technology is today, it would be rare for anyone to have a “normal” study. Even something around 1mm in diameter can be seen on an MRI and often it just indicates an area of slightly different density than the surrounding tissue.
A civilization of cowards.
How do they know that it's not due to massive quantities of beer consumed after those weekend games?
It has nothing to do with football.
Just attending public high school damages your brain, often beyond repair.
You should see what a season of snowboarding, mountain or rock climbing can do to your body and brain.
I’ve knocked myself out once and had two concussions snowboarding. Also fractured two ribs on two different seasons.
Ran into a few trees. Lucky i had a helmet and some dirt bike gear on.
Could have sucked.
Fell down the side of a mountain a few times and cut everything.
Which reminds of a time I went snowboarding and it was freaking hot as hell. 60° doesn’t seem hot but, at 10,000 feet, it feels like 80°.
So, I had on a pair of shorts and a t-shirt.
I’m standing and waiting for a friend to get off the lift.
Here he comes....looking right at me, smiling real big.
I start yelling to stoo looking at me and before I could move, this 6’-2”, 275# dork ran right into me, knocking me over the side of a cliff.
I tumbled 40 feet and when I got up grabbed my helmet.
Another snowboarder immediately came to me and wanted to know if I was alright.
I said “Yeah” as I grabbed my helmet to be sure.
My buddy came down and starts saying sorry and the other guy says “You’ll be lucky if this guy doesnt kick your ass!”
At this point he says “Hey man. You are bleeding from head to toe”.
I looked and sure enough my knees, tibias, elbows and forearms were all bleeding.
Now I’m standing there and thinking “Damnit!”
At that point my buddy is apologizing and he says “You got some blood on your face too” looking intently and close.
“After I clean this Shiite up, you owe me drinks for the rest of the weekend and you know what I freakin drink, you turd”.
Pulled a can of “Quick Seal” out and after using the water from my camelback to rinse everything, sprayed all the cuts, the covered them with Tegaderm bandages.
Then skin patrol rode up and luckily they knee how to use my med kit and they took care of my face gash with my micro bandages.
My buddy was true and indeed bought my drinks all weekend, which started with a couple doubles the second I got back to lodge.
We then went back out for a couple hours and finished the day.
I must have looked kewel, as I had chicks coming on to me all night.
The point is: You play rough sports, you’re gonna get roughed up.
Hell, I almost broke my back surfing and another time cracked my coxxic bone while figure skating.
Done myself in a few other times doing simple things.
Life happens.
Blah! Blah! Blah!
But smoking pot is a ok. Right?
MSNBC can damage the brain a lot faster. I’ll take football.
Where’s the soccer research? (crickets chirping in background)
President Regan was ahead of these guys 40 years ago, using Gerald Ford as an example. Although he did suggest that Ford played for Michigan without a helmet.
Despite the fact that we get more head concussions in soccer due to all those headers? Or the innumerable injuries from bodychecking in ice hockey?
Having worked in clinical, and academic, medicine as well as having worked for a neuropathologist on the staff of a world famous hospital I say that this is a matter to be addressed by physicians, surgeons and medical researchers.Football, hockey, baseball, boxing and/or other sports/activities either do,or do not, represent a special danger to participants.
Those on both sides of the argument should wait for guidance on this subject from qualified medical practitioners.
