Researchers have found that playing a single season of football can change the brain of a teenager - even if they don't suffer concussions.
Even though players were not concussed during the season, researchers found abnormalities similar to the effects of mild traumatic brain injury.
They called for more research into the area, which raises new questions over the safety of contact sports for young adults.

I think rugby players are better off than football players because in rugby you aren’t wearing a hard shell for a helmet.

I played football in Jr. High and High School, 2nd string and proud of it; got my share of getting knocked on my butt.

Football players over here didn’t wear them in the past either; they did wear leather helmets though, even though they were optional equipment to begin with. The goalposts used to be the same as in rugby, too.
A smack to the head with an 85 mph fastball can do the same.
Ban all sports now so the inept can keep up!
I wish some white player had pretended to shoot them to show support for Darren Wilson.
With the way MRI and CT technology is today, it would be rare for anyone to have a “normal” study. Even something around 1mm in diameter can be seen on an MRI and often it just indicates an area of slightly different density than the surrounding tissue.
Just one more reason to sit at home and be completely safe at all times!

There’s nothing like getting your own bell rung, so you take a minute or so to shake it off and find you’ve drooled all over your facemask, a little blood but mostly snot and slobber ‘cause you just ‘jowled’.

Obesity rules! Keep them yungins at home stuck to their computer screens playing Grand Theft Auto or World of Warcraft - God forbid they should discover the outside world where all the dangerous stuff is! The human body obviously wasn’t meant to run jump skip play climb trees explore the world try new things compete in sports do athletic stuff.
