NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- No bicycles in the drive-through lane. Police in Florida busted a man who insisted on getting his Taco Bell order, even though employees said no bikes were allowed.
New Smyrna Beach police said Gabriel Harris, 33, was denied service in the drive-thru just after 3 am Sunday, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reports. The fast-food workers called the cops after Harris refused to leave.

I used to go through the drive through on a bicycle all the time when I was a teenager.

Seems kind of harsh. I mean, sure, he was drunk, but at least he wasn’t driving... and what’s the big deal about a bike going through the drive through?
I’d give the guy a pass and maybe even a ride home to sleep it off. Arresting him? Gee.

At least the biker didn’t get pumped full of lead by an over-zealous Florida LEO who sensed a “threat”.

    Quite the Hipster Beer-Cycle.
Is there a Pabst Blue Ribbon version? Thinking banana seat and 5-speed stem shifter.

Did he get sited for an open container outside the vehicle?
They first suspected him, when they saw him take out the tire gauge and try to check the air pressure of his own head.
Well, after all, he didn’t have his seat belt on.
Served him right. He was charged because he didn’t have a lie sense.

I think it has more to do with the restaurants insurance policy than anything else. they’re afraid people in cars will hit bicyclists and pedestrian, injuring them and leaving the restaurant open to lawsuits.

That’s the official excuse. When I was a pup, I could bicycle through drive-throughs and nobody cared because people didn’t drive like idiots.

To answer your first, because he wouldn't leave and was blocking the lane.
