The European Space Agencys Philae lander has made space history by successfully reaching the surface of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
The landing, which took place at 11.03 AM ET, was accompanied by rapturous scenes at the ESAs control room in Darmstadt, Germany.
Philae is the first probe to land on a comet.

And they did it essentially from scratch. Almost everything had to be designed, tested, and learned for the first time. This was a time when men were men, and America did bold things.
Even President Kennedy referred to the moon mission as “... the most hazardous, and dangerous, and greatest adventure on which man has ever embarked.”
