Oh...I hope they are right, but I don’t call one day of 60/30’s ‘winter’. We are never more than 24 hrs away from 80’s-even in December/January. I hope it’s FRIGID here-and lasts more than a day. Nothing more surreal than the AC cranking away and summer clothes for the holidays.

>>>NOAA is predicting a warm winter. Got to push that AGW agenda.

NOAA is going to be horribly wrong. EVERY (and I mean every) long-range private sector forecaster (those who have to make a living being right...not working for the government) is predicting a colder than normal winter.

The problem with government forecasters is this: There is no accountability. If you blow a forecast, oh well. If you do that in the private sector you will lose clients...and $$$...and your job.

We have a week long snow and bitter cold system forecasted to move in, starting Monday afternoon (Front Range, CO). We should be in the mid 50s Monday, and not break freezing again until maybe Friday or Monday. I am not sure I am ready for blast like that.

We used to just call it winter. Happens every year.

You've got to remember that, for liberals, history began this morning.

"Dude! It's gonna like, get cold?"

We used to call it an “Alberta Clipper” when I was forecasting in Kansas.

Cold air streaming out of Alberta Canada. In the 70’s one day and near zero and snowing the next.

Now it has to have a scary name... Polar Vortex....oooooo-oooo!

Ever since: (1) the retirement of ‘the old guys’; (2) the inclusion of all sorts of electronic ‘weather models’, both devised by Americans and Europeans; (3) the ‘weather channel’ being part of NBC; (4) hiring a bunch of folks that fall over themselves and slaughter the English language, in their glee of devastating storms and thei aftermath, I don’t admit that there is much to make book on, with all those pointy heads.

I was raised in a time where you were taught how to divine the coming weather from barometric pressure charts, temperature charts, high and low pressure changes, wind speeds and directions, and the current weather from major cities, in relation to your home, all with pen and paper. No slide rules and calculators were not yet invented.

Lastly, we were also taught that signs of nature would always herald how much of a season was approaching.

Not sure if this is connected or not but over the past few weeks, there have been oil trucks and pickups bearing firewood going up and down my street. My neighbors are obviously anticipating some cold weather ahead and are preparing for it.

Further, flocks of birds have been flying over my house - headed in a southerly direction.

I'm starting to get concerned.

There goes that pesky Mother Nature again screwing up the Lib agenda. Sometimes it seems as though God finds humor in the arrogance of some here on Earth and likes to mess with their heads.

Go out and stock up on milk and bread!

That's racist! Milk, bread, eggs, and TP are generally white...

Came across a grocery conversation, and there were a variety of terms used to classify the buying panic before storms.

"White Rush", "White Holiday", and the only other one I can remember is "French Toast Day".

Farmers Almanac is predicting a rather nasty winter in my region. They were spot on last year.

In my youth (1946-1956)on the High Plains, everyone stocked up before winter. There were times you could not get to town 40 miles away for weeks at a time.

I remember two terms for such storms when they rolled through.
“Alberta Clipper”
and
“Siberian Express”
