I just came back from a trip that included Scotland. I can’t believe that the Scotch over there is far more expensive than it is where I live on this side of the pond.

Yamazaki is really good. I don’t know about best. But definitely good.

Well, now the UK will probably FORCE Scotland to be an independent nation. No one likes a loser.

This is so typically Japanese—to borrow from another culture and then excel.

The Japanese have loved Scotch for a long time. I remember reading an interview with Adm. Matome Ugaki where the interviewer stated that he arrived with a bottle of very high end Scotch because he knew it was a favorite of his.

The Japanese have a long habit of doing this with a whole lot of other stuff invented elsewhere: the automobile, the fax machine, the transistor . . . so why not a relatively low tech product like an alcoholic beverage?

Back when I used to drink ... 22 years and counting ... I had made the fairly basic discovery that scotches are amazingly varied. There is no reason to pay a high premium for a prestige label when a little research (well, ok, in my case a LOT of research) will probably turn up a moderately priced brand that suits your palate.

I’ve never heard of Yamazaki. I’ve used Jameson whiskey for. It makes one heck of a whiskey glazed baconated meatloaf.
