The Boehner, McConnell, McCain, Graham types of politicians are enamored with the lives they lead as members of Congress. Perks, media attention and getting paid a lot of money for very minimal work. They also, like the characters in that South Park episode who enjoyed smelling their own flatulence, have bought the idea that they are special and that the populace is so fortunate to have them to govern over them. They bought into their own press and now sit by the reflecting pool on the mall admiring their own visage (and tossing back some whisky in the case of the Weeper).

It is a story as old as time. They succumb to the temptations of narcissism and power and their constitutents suffer for it. We all suffer for it, actually.

I’m not an expert on the subject but I believe they typically have small wee-wee’s.

“Are Rino’s REALLY evil people or are they just politically weak?”

Nah. I just think they’re not too bright. To have to play things on the “safe side” every time probably means their jobs depend on it.

Why would a person and his supporters spend literally $millions* to get elected to a position that pays $174,000 annual salary?

Why would a person and his supporters spend literally $1billion+ to get elected to a position that pays $400,000 annual salary?

* Recall that in 2010, McCain ran out of money for his senate reelection and had to borrow $20 million from his presidential campaign fund.

I still wonder about that, but no one else has shown any interest: how did his manage to have at much and more left over from 2008 presidential bid, when he had to use the FED fund part-way through the primaries?

There are two kinds of politicians I have come to know, those who get into office for the money and the fame, and those who primarily are in it for the job itself. RINOs pretty much fall into category 1. Making the money matters more than the duties of their office.

"So while some RINOs may be truly evil, I think most of them are just WOEFULLY uninformed. They get biased information and think they’re hearing the truth. They are “ignorant” in the purest sense."

The reason for this thread is for me, and perhaps others, get a good grasp on the true nature of "the parties" and decide wisely with our vote

What you said makes sense and is MY hope, that those that are not necessarily evil CAN be roped in and educated by the TEA party

Are Rino's REALLY evil people or are they just politically weak ?

Neither. Demonizing people with political beliefs that aren't yours as "evil" is what liberals do - it's how we've arrived at the fragmented, hate-filled electorate we've got today, in which American liberals can't conceive of any foreign enemy as evil as American conservatives. No hearts can be won or minds changed if we consider those who disagree with us to be evil, stupid, etc. - that's the game liberals play.

And as for "politically weak" - the GOP establishment has ensured non-conservative presidential nominees for over 30 years now. The GOP establishment controls the GOP - they are anything but weak. It's conservatives who are "Republican in name only", because the Republican Party represents conservative voters through occasional lip-service only. It's conservatives who are politically weak, because we have no political party truly devoted to conservative principles. That's the problem that needs to be fixed, and the answer is not within the GOP - the answer is a new party to replace the GOP.

Muslims practice FGM. They are taught from birth that it’s not only allowable, but good. Are they ignorant or evil? Is there a difference to the girl under the knife?

By their fruits shall ye know them...

Remember, not all Republicans are RINOs, but all RINOs are Republicans. Eliminate them before they infect the rest.

You are right on with your criteria for a constitution respecting good republican.

I am trying hard to think of 3 democrats who meet your criteria, and gave up!

In a changing political climate it's always possible to be outflanked by members of one's own party. If you were a Republican elected during the Nixon or Ford or Reagan years, you might find yourself labeled a RINO because of changes in your own party even if you were saying the same thing and voting the same way for decades. Something similar happened to Democrats elected in the Roosevelt or Truman or Kennedy years once the 1970s and 1980s rolled around. Something similar may even happen to you some day.

Sometimes, RINO's are just people who represent their own state or district. Somebody you would consider a "real conservative" couldn't get elected in New York or Massachusetts or Vermont or Hawaii. Only a more moderate Republican could, and it's better off for them if they actually believe what they say, rather than if they're just faking it. If you want a party that competes in every state and has a chance at a majority in Congress, you will have to put up with RINOs. Throw them all out and you won't get to 50%+1 for a very, very long time.

You might compare how things are here with what goes on in Canada, where the national Liberal Party, say, has little to do with the Ontario or British Columbia Liberal Party. One competes with the Conservatives. The other has to do battle with the socialist New Democrats. So a Liberal at the provincial level may be something like a conservative and a liberal at the national level may be closer to a socialist. At least that's the way it was the last time I checked. In comparison with things up there, American politics are pretty straightforward.

Not all the folks elected have center stage. Pat Roberts (R) Kansas doesn’t make a lot of noise but he has a conservative voting record. Because someone doesn’t have center stage doesn’t make them a RINO.
