OKEMOS, Mich. - A Michigan woman who wanted home-brewed Starbucks coffee will accept $250 to end a lawsuit over the company's decision to stop making discs for a specific single-serve coffee machine -- the one that she happened to own.
Pam Montgomery of Okemos said she bought a Tassimo brewer by Kraft Foods because Starbucks supplied coffee discs for it. But Starbucks ended its deal with Kraft and came up with its own machine. It also makes discs/pods for Keurig machines.

Personally, I don’t get the attraction of these Tassimo or Keurig machines. In my market, it’s almost a buck for each cup of coffee or whatever you are making. At best, these makes it a luxury thing that you might use on the weekends when you pamper yourself.
If I were to get a specialized machine, I’d probably get a cappuccino/expresso machine where I can use just plain coffee and plain milk or cream.
A cafetiere works pretty well, too, if you like strong coffee.
The keurig has an adapter that you can scoop regular loose coffee in, and I’ve found that my coffee lasts longer with no waste. We get done of the pos for a little luxury on the weekend as you suggested.
I wasn’t aware of any adapter, but my point was that each Keurig disk works out to be between 80 cents and 1.00 per cup.
As much coffee as most people drink, that can easily run up a bill of over $100 a month for coffee. For most people, that’s a rather expensive luxury which is why, without the adapter, it would be something used sparingly.
Keurig adapter? Ill have to look into that.
I tried the Keurig machine and the coffee was up drinkable!
It’s a piece that fits inside the front where the pods go, and has a little wire basket.
I understand. Beyond that, this is really bad precedent. Does that mean I can sue Microsoft for not supporting an OS indefinitely? Companies discontinue product all the time.
I'm not sure what up drinkable! means but I use my Keurig® coffee maker daily. There is a large selection of flavors and I'm happy with it.
The Newman’s own is the best! And stores like Costco and Sam’s sell big boxes of 80 pods which come out to $.50 / cup. A good price compared to stopping at 711 or Dunnkin donuts every morning.
I picked up a Mr. Coffee cafe barista a while back and love it. Has settings for espresso, cappuccino, and cafe latte. Haven't done the cappuccino setting but the reservoir pumps the milk through a steamer which froths it and dumps it in the cup and it comes out good. I usually use the double sieve/setting for espresso and run it through the double cycle twice - makes about 3-1/2 ozs of really good strong coffee; add sugar and a dollop of heavy whipping cream and I have a custom very strong and fresh coffee.
The workaround for Keurigs is to buy the machine, then buy a reusable coffee-bucket, and fill it with the ground coffee of your choice. Pays for itself over time. If you want anything specialized like lattes or cappuccinos, however, you have to get an espresso machine; you can find workable "gently used" machines on eBay and such for under $100.
I’ve had a Tassimo machine for several years. It makes excellent tasting coffee. When Starbucks announced that it was ending their contract with Tassimo, I went around to all the local stores and bought up what I could. Stores, like Target, actually had it on clearance! We have a Keurig at work. The coffee tastes no different than what I can brew from a pot. For now, I can still get Gevalia coffees as well as several European styles for my Tassimo. If you like chai latte or regular lattes, Tassimo is for you. It has milk or creamer discs that actually froth the milk. Yum!
Bought my wife a Keurig coffee make as a gift. She decided to exchange it for a counter top, miniature rotisserie and oven. We both love that little oven and use it frequently. A much better purchase with more versatility.
(I don’t patronize Starbucks......its over hyped and priced)

I’ll go in with you on a class-action lawsuit to bring back MS-DOS 4.01
I don’t see the appeal or the waste of money. A $10 Walmart coffee maker and a can of Folgers is fine by me.
Why not? There should at least be some kind of assurance that a technology you purchase will be supported for "x" years.
For those on fixed income, planned obsolescence of stuff can really mess up a budget.
you can get kerug adapters on ebay, but i got mine from groupon. so now i can have my folgers
