I understand. Beyond that, this is really bad precedent. Does that mean I can sue Microsoft for not supporting an OS indefinitely? Companies discontinue product all the time.

Why not? There should at least be some kind of assurance that a technology you purchase will be supported for "x" years.

For those on fixed income, planned obsolescence of stuff can really mess up a budget.
