Well, having a double laminectomy/ Discectomy tomorrow. I don't really want to do it, but the doctor says the longer I wait the less likely function will return. I have 50% weakness in the left leg and a foot drop. It turns out I have direct impingement on the nerves which is blocking the nerve impulses. I've done excersize/therapy in the past. This time 0% improvement after 5 weeks of therapy. If this doesn't give me some improvement I'm looking at medical retirement (law enforcement). I don't really want to retire now, but God is good, I guess we'll let him take care of it. I would appreciate any and all prayers for me. I'm getting older and not afraid to admit I need all the help I can get. Please be advised any responses to this thread after tomorrow afternoon might be a little flaky or bizarre due to pain medication. Apologies in advance.

I had a laminectomy in 1974 and have had no problems since. The only rehab was back exercises which I found in a library book. Procedures and aftercare are much better today.

When I got sick and faced a long rehab, my therapist drove me hard but when I was trying to beat a deadline, she reminded me that the stress was a factor. She said what would you like to do? I knew right away! And two other skills. We’re doing very well and happy.

You are definitely in my prayers. As a fellow sheepdog, I can appreciate what you are going thru.
I had my second cervical fusion 082714. Doctor (at Barrows) said I would be out for 3 months. Went back to work on modified duty last week.
Do what your doctor tells you and you will be fine. DO NOT push it. You will feel better and think you can go ahead and start going to the gym, doing yard work, etc. No reason to get in a hurry.

It helps a lot to BREAK your habit of trying to rescue something that you’re fumbling in your hands.
Let the dang thang drop to the counter / floor. IOW, STOP your instinct to reach / move rapidly.

In my prayers. I had an ACDF from 4 to 6 from a crush injury. I waited too long, but the results were excellent and regained 80% strength to my left arm. Good luck and know it has to be done now.
If your burden becomes too heavy to bear, let Christ do the heavy lifting. He will carry you through this. My prayers are with you.
You’re going to be alright in a few days. It’s a long recovery, but the time will pass before you know it. Good thing you’re doing something about it.
