Now there’s a blast from the past.

Some of my best memories as a kid were watching, “Highway Patrol”, with my Uncle Jim, the Deputy Chief of the Colorado State Police, and have him tell me what they did well and was inaccurate...

That is what I-10 looked like when I drove my MGA roadster from Houston to LA.
I arrived totally deaf.
I then understood why British sport car drivers always wore cool leather headgear in those days.
I love “Highway Patrol.” The whole no-nonsense attitude it conveys. Totally devoid of any kind of self-consciousness or pretentiousness. Makes it almost the total cultural opposite of everything you see nowadays. It reminds me of the older, pre-hippie generations that just plainly didn’t put up with crap. No moral relativism, no PC idiocy, no operatic-level emotionalism, no hidden political subtexts. It makes watching the show such a sheer, unbridled joy.
A great actor—who could do comedy as well as Drama. Sadly, he didn’t get to show what he could do on Highway patrol. His show was cutting edge for its time and proved popular. Part of the Real Crime shows that came out—like Dragnet.
