Apple's new iOS 8 is causing apps to crash 65 percent more frequently than iOS 7, according to a report updated Wednesday by mobile analytics company Crittercism.
But there's a big catch here: Crittercism is comparing current rates for the week-old iOS 8 to the year-old iOS 7. New operating systems frequently launch with initial bugs and other issues -- particularly for the earliest adopters -- and Apple typically pushes system updates through quickly.
Overall, iOS 8 is causing apps to crash 3.29 percent of the time as of midnight Tuesday, Crittercism said. That's compared with the current 2 percent crash rate for iOS 7. Crittercism has been tracking crash rates since September 17, the day Apple released iOS 8, and rates peaked on September 21 at 3.56 percent. Unsurprisingly, older devices including the iPhone 4S, 5 and 5S experienced higher crash rates. Apple did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

Make sword!
Power draw is up a little.
I have had an iphone 5 (assigned by my employer) for over one year.
It has been kept up-to-date with all software upgrades.
Prior to last week, when i ‘upgraded’ to ios8, it had not locked-up or ‘crashed’ in any way - not even once.
In the last five days the phone completely seized up 6 times - each event requiring a shut-down and ‘reboot’.
I’m starting to suspect Apple subbed out development of ios8 to microsoft...
FReeper1: Apples are awesome, PCs suck!!
FReeper2: No! PCs are awesome, Apples Suck!
FR1: No! You Suck!
FR2: No! You Suck More!
FR1: No! YOU suck more!
FR2: No! YOU... and so on and so on ad nauseum.
Nothing worse than a geek slap-fight.
Tell me about it. I spent the last week reverting iOS 8 back to iOS 7. The new OS made my 3-year old iPad 2 so slow it was unusable. I finally got full functionality restored today.
LOL - I was thinking the same thing.
The apple fanbois always attack MS for any problem yet hold up their apple messiah as perfect without faults.
According to my iPad Air, most of the apps I use have already been updated to improve compatibility with iOS 8.0. I know that Twitter, Facebook, Google Chrome, TuneIn Radio, iHeartRadio, Weather Channel, and a few others I used a lot on my iPad Air are working well in now in iOS 8.0.
So far so good with me.
FR3: I use Linux, and it’s free. The rest of you are suckers!
OK, here I am...now what?? :)
I wasn’t able to DL ios8 b/c my phone doesn’t have enough memory. That in itself is a big red flag. However, I must say Apple as of late has been putting out beta qual s/w. Its nearly as bad as the crap MS distributes. (Im sorry just couldn’t help myself, LOL.) So, I wont be able to share or sympathize w/ the ios8 convulsions the rest of you are experiencing. Too bad, so sad. :)
You’ve captured the situation perfectly!
Lesseehere ... massive wave of changes hitting in mere days, vs a year for the onset of tranquility. ... and people point & taunt because the crash rate temporarily went up 1.3 percentage points.
can’t stand any Apple products, even to get music you have to pay and sign up unlike Samsung
Apple, Microsoft and Linux suck!
I love my Commodore 64!
:^)
I upgraded to the 5s last week (yeah, I know- always a model behind ) upgraded to iOS8 a few days later. No problems at all.
Have at you, good sir! Avast!
LOL
I’m a hopeless android/kindle nerd, so I don’t have a dog in this fight. I just come here to watch the flamewars.
