Who are the Real Liberals?

A few hundred years ago, humanity went through a remarkable period of transformation, the Enlightenment. A number of different developments enabled this transformation to take place, and the impact of the Enlightenment has been tremendous. One area where the Enlightenment had particularly strong influence was in political theory. Before the Enlightenment, it was common knowledge that all men were natural slaves. We were slaves to our parents and slaves to our rulers in the same way that we were naturally slaves to God. This ancient doctrine justified the despotic political systems that had existed in one form or another throughout most of history.

The Enlightenment changed this tradition. Enlightenment thinkers began to see the world as dominated by physical forces put in place by a benevolent God. Man became a naturally free and rational creature who can choose his own life. Man has dignity; he is intrinsically and individually valuable. He owns himself and the products of his labor. His rational nature enables him to build a free society where he is not a slave to his rulers. This philosophy, the belief that man has inherent dignity, is now known as Classical Liberalism, and it was the philosophical inspiration for The American Revolution.

Our founding fathers were steeped in the liberal tradition. One classical liberal that was particularly influential to the founding of our country was an Englishman named John Locke (1632-1704). Locke was so influential that Thomas Jefferson listed him as one of the most influential men in his own thinking and was even accused of plagiarizing Locke while writing the Declaration of Independence.

I wonder what will emerge from the ashes of the failed American experiment in self-government.

What will historians of 2114 have to say of America circa 2014?

No such thing as a liberal anymore - they have been successful in bastardizing the English language to the point where even those who consider themselves to be liberals have no real sense of the original meaning of the word. There were many during the ‘60s that might have been true liberals, but they were co-opted by the commies who saw a huge, gaping, opening with the naive college kids who thought themselves to be sophisticated scholars.

“What will historians of 2114 have to say of America circa 2014?”

“Classical Liberalism has gone through a number of evolutions. Radically different political philosophies have developed from the original liberalism; these developments span the political spectrum from libertarianism on the right to today’s “post-modern” liberalism on the left. However, the original, classical liberalism of John Locke still persists today in only one group: the Tea Party.”

“post-modern” liberalism did not evolve from the “Classical Liberalism”. That evolution ended with the death of F.D.R.

Today’s liberalism is socialism that was planted in this
country by jewish refugees from WWII Nazi Germany. They
weren’t fleeing socialism, they were fleeing persecution.
They were devout socialists all along and weren’t about to
change because of some constitution. Some of these jews were
turncoats and worked for the Nazi’s. Jews like George Soros,
who is one of the Obamas handlers.

No, today’s progressive/liberalism is not evolved from John Locke and our founding fathers but from jewish refugees,
the 60’s inagodadavida hippie movement and the Russian/American
exchange student program of the 60’s and 70’s. That’s also
where all the liberal perversions began also.

Well if the tards end up on top, I would say it would be
erased from history all together, labeled a total failure.
They wouldn’t want anyone to get any ideas in the future.

Treb is right on
But it’s not only those who have the “Ist virus” which has bastardized the meaning. Limbaugh dwells on their (the sicko’s with the “Ist virus”) perverse definition of this political term applying that definition of “Liberal” every chance he gets. As well as many other “conservative” talkie hosts has. They have contributed to acceptance of the morphing its meaning as much as the fascist/socialist/communist did.

But I'm sure you are completely innocent aren't you. BTW the morphing happened long before Limbaugh.
