THOUSAND OAKS (CBSLA.com) — A poisonous albino monocled cobra was loose in Thousand Oaks after it bit a dog Wednesday morning, officials said.

The attack happened late Monday afternoon in the backyard of a home in the 1300 block of Rancho Lane.

The dog was taken to a veterinarian and its condition was unknown.

The cobra, which was photographed by the dog’s owner, is venomous and very dangerous, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control.

State Fish and Wildlife and the LA animal services responded to the area in an effort to find the snake.

Residents were advised to keep their pets and small children indoors.

If anyone sees the snake, immediately call 911 or (818) 991-0071.

1953 Cobra scare in Springfield, MO. Several were killed in downtown neighborhoods after a kid released them from a pet store after a dispute with the owner.

When I was a kid I thought there was a cobra in the yard, turned out to be a harmless hognosed snake that will spread its hood to look tough, if that doesn't work it just plays dead.

Aren’t you assuming it is a pet? After all, it could be a Mohammedanoran who turned it loose to kill people.

What? Call 911 for a snake? Jeez what kind of pantywaist calls 911 for a snake? If I had to call 911 every time I was in the woods and saw a cottonmouth I'd be on the phone all day. I know cityfolk don't usually have their shotgun handy, but theres other ways. Just kill the darn thing. A cobra snake is of no good on this planet.

The story doesn’t say anything about fatalities. Do have other sources?

“Albino Cobra” would be a great name for a rock band.

Could Whitesnake sue?

I wonder why they chose that name..hmm? Must have loved reptiles.

It may not be known, but we can pretty much guess that it didn't end well for the dog. How many vets keep antivenin for cobras?

Yea, I know, poisonous vs. venomous, either way, you can die........

Is the injection of herpetology and the toxicology of certain venomous species such as this albino cobra really a necessary addition to this discussion or are you just trying to impress us?.......LOL!

>>>What kind of moron keeps a cobra as a pet?<<<

One that is probably dead from a venomous snakebite . . . he just hasn’t been found yet.

That explains why the snake might have gotten loose.

A friend of mine keeps a lot of hots, including several varieties of Cobras including albinos, some gorgeous Gaboon Vipers, several rattlesnake species, including albinos, Copperheads and quite a few other exotic kinds of vipers.

Going to his house is always a visit filled with wonder and amazement.

He has no tattoos, piercings or otherwise “weird” distinguishing marks and is a rather conservative, intelligent man.

He sells his venomous broods as “display specimens” and has been quite successful at it.

I personally don’t want a snake I can’t take out and play with but I’m not everybody.

I hope the dog is okay and the snake is found.

Somebody is missing quite a pricey critter.

Vets have the same access to antivenin as people doctors.

They have to.

*Lots* of dogs are bitten by snakes every year.
