A chef preparing a dish made from cobra flesh died after the snake bit his hand - 20 minutes after he had severed it from its body. Peng Fan from Foshan, Guangdong province, southern China, had been preparing a special dish made from Indochinese spitting cobra, a rare delicacy.
It was as he went to chuck the cobra's head in the bin that it bit him, injecting Mr Peng with its flesh-killing, neurotoxic venom. Scroll down for video
Final act of revenge: The severed head of a decapitated snake snaps in purely reflexive fury, as did the one that killed chef Peng Fan as he prepared it for diners at a restaurant in Foshan, Guangdong province, China The snake was being diced up to be made into snake soup, which is a delicacy in Guangdong and a much sought after dish in the province's high-end restaurants. Restaurant guest Lin Sun, 44, who was in the restaurant with his wife Su at the time said: 'We were in the restaurant having a meal for my wife's birthday when suddenly there was a lot of commotion. That escalated quickly.
Did the patron at least enjoy the meal?
Screaming from the kitchen is a real buzzkill
Freakin’ poetic.
Kinda hard to fault the snake.
This is not funny. Cobra is actually a very nutritious and tasty meal and the chef did not deserve to die like that. I am hoping that this tragedy does not deter other chefs from preparing cobra dishes.
I hope they clean the cutting boards well.
Honey Badger won’t die.
If only GI Joe could’ve prevented this Cobra attack...

I'm kinda surprised that basic safety precautions weren't followed, such as having an antidote on hand and crushing the snake's head, instead of just chopping it off, and letting it flop around. That's what folks do with diamondbacks and copperheads stateside, and they're nowhere near as dangerous as any flavor of cobra, let alone the hyper-venomous spitting cobra.
And I thought my homemade chili had a bite. I stand corrected.
So what? I didn't see it, and I'll bet a lot of others didn't either. Unless you've got your eyes glued to FR 16 hours a day, you're going to miss some interesting things.
I could understand if the same article was posted a dozen times in the same day, but I've never understood why some Freeps get so bent out of shape over some item of interest being posted more than once on the forum.
Apologies. I was unaware to it.
Actually, it is funny - from the Spitting Cobra’s point of view.
Just exactly which culinary academy recommends decapitating a poisonous snake and then keeping the head nearby for easy access?
Honey Badger wont die.
