Cool it! While Hollywood has accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in droves, uploading often-creative, LOL videos and nominating each other, Pamela Anderson and Carey Hart took to their social media pages to criticize the viral campaign, meant to raise funds for Lou Gehrig's disease research.
On Wednesday Aug. 20, Anderson, a longtime supporter of animal rights, posted a Facebook message criticizing ALS researchers for their research practices...
The next morning, on Thursday, Aug. 21, Hart similarly railed against those who have hopped on the ice bucket bandwagon...

And probably the last person you want holding the ice to dump is Gronk...
He can hold a large bucket, and there might be some empties...and fulls left in that ice...:)
Be careful which organization you are picking.
There is also The ALS Association which seems to be plenty above board since the reviews I have found online seem pretty positive from charity review sites.

I always consult Pamela Anderson on matters related to good health and scientific research. / S
After all, she is a human petri dish. : ),
My mother lost a very good friend to this disease. It really was the kind of thing that makes you question your faith.
She was the most queenly, dignified woman you’d ever want to meet. She went to the opera regularly and traveled in some very high class circles in NYC.
But, she was good friends with my mom, who was not quite at that exalted level.
To this very day I cannot believe that of all the things that could be inflicted upon a person by an uncaring universe, that ALS was inflicted on M.
I understand what people are saying on this thread, but it is one of the very few charities I give money to.
(No, I have not dumped a bucket of water on my head, not recently anyway.)
But, say what we will, this is one of the most brilliant fundraisers anyone has ever come up with, so I’d say that person at least earned their pay.
I pray that the 30,000,000 they raise from this challenge all goes to a cure. I hope the charity is not tempted to divvy up the funds amongst themselves, since this is outside their normal revenue stream. We’ll see...
Sorry about your mother’s friend. Sadly, disease does not discriminate between good and bad people (not that anyone good or bad deserves ALS).
The campaign is worthy for making ALS a household name, even if the people running it are less than selfless (although personally I have no reason to question their motivation). Its a terrible disease that deserves public awareness and the research funding that comes with that.
As for the ice bucket, not so bad. Hell, Russians do it for fun.
Sorry about your loss. I have faith that science will one day rid us of this loathsome disease.
Opinions are like a-holes, everybody’s got one.
Yes, thank you, I’m sorry for your loss also.
And you are right, awareness does count with these issues.
I have no idea if their expenditures are in or out of line with other charities. And I know some are not supporting them because of stem cell research, etc.
Generally I don’t drill down that far with these things, although perhaps I should.
But, I’m trying to be attuned to these “social media” things, because dear daughter says they are the way of the future. In terms of that, they’ve totally won this round.
Oh, and let me not leave this subject without repeating that I think it is just another disgrace on Obama that he turned down ETHEL KENNEDY’S ice bucket challenge. I hope at least that he gave the money, but with his defenders in the media still defending him (wobbly though their knees may be getting at this point) I have no idea.
I’m not terribly concerned about their salaries. The reviews state they do a good job of getting money to where it is needed without eating it as administrative expense. That’s what more concerns me.
