Before pitbulls became so prominent, dobies were the scariest (and best) guard dogs.
I think the phrase (and movie?) “they only kill their masters” was about dobies.
She is fortunate it did not take extreme umbrage.

Hobbs, Revlon and now Sampson....my Dobermans are smarter than most people and better company....when my niece was 5 she would jump on Hobbs and his reaction was none.
Just about the best animal out there human or otherwise. xo
