It takes an average of 3 minutes to take picture of their food? Seriously? Do cellphones come with Polaroid film in them?
If it takes you 3 minutes to get a pic of your plate, maybe you are too dumb to have a phone!!
Taking pics of your food in a restaurant is:
You gotta understand the process. It’s not just taking a pic, first they have to take the phone out of their pocket because they always put it away even though they intend to mess with it every 10 seconds. And then they take a couple of pics to find the best one. Then it goes up on social media with some comment. Then they check other people’s recent activity hoping to get comments on their picture, which of course they then reply to. 3 minutes is actually pretty quick.
At a five star restaurant, they have to pose their food just right! and find the exact exposure. . . flash or no flash, HDR?, turn the plate so the broccoli shows its best profile. . . Oops, there's a shadow on the loaded mashed potatoes. Do it all several times because you won't come here again.

Taking the pic only takes one minute.
The other two minutes are used uploading the pics to Facebook, so you can show off to all of those hundreds of “friends” (Many that you don’t actually know) what you are eating.
I've noticed some restaurants have signs stating "no pictures taken of food" or something similar. I am guessing it's because many aren't just snapping a pic. They are playing food stylist wanna be with the table top to post the pics on their blogs, instagrams, twit pics, etc,
I didn’t give it a lot of thought until you mentioned it, but that does seem a little ludicrous. I don’t think it took me 3 minutes to figure out how to use the camera in my smartphone, and it only takes me that long to get a picture if I’m trying to take one of my cats.
Maybe we’ve advanced to getting video of food, not just pics.
