Today, the gun world is buzzing with news of a "revolution in silencers." SilencerCo has announced today they will be producing the Salvo 12, the first ever commercially produced shotgun sound suppressor.
The official press release reads:
Confirming its place as a trailblazer in the firearms industry, suppressor manufacturer SilencerCo has unveiled the first commercially-viable shotgun silencer ever produced. The company made the announcement today at an exclusive event near its Utah headquarters. Active content removed Active content removed
The Salvo 12 represents a revolution in silencers, not just an evolution, said Joshua Waldron, Chief Executive Officer for SilencerCo. There is a huge installed base of shotgun hunters and shooters that has been waiting for a product like this for a long time, and we are proud to deliver it.
SilencerCo was formed in 2008 and is one of the leading manufacturers of silencers for firearms.
From the SilencerCo press release:
"The Salvo 12 is modular in nature the shooter can add or remove sections to balance their sound suppression, weight and length needs. At its full length of 12 inches, it brings sound down to 137 dB at the muzzle well below the 140 dB hearing-safe level set by OSHA."

Seems like just the thing for waterfowlers.
For the GT Ping List...
I had a feeling that this was going to be their surprise when they were interviewed on GunTalk a couple of weeks ago.
Nice! Looks like my Osprey. Quiet, too.
Looks heavy, but the shooter handles it pretty well. Maybe titanium or something?
Drilled down to SilencerCo’s site:
MATERIALS:
7075 T6 Aluminum
17-4 Stainless Steel
Okay, that explains why they’re not an anchor; nice and light.

Silencerco is going to be at the NSSF Rimfire Challenge in Parma (Idaho) next month. Maybe they’ll have some examples of these with them.
At the top of Anton Chigurh’s shopping list.
Cool.
BUT, how can this avoid being an extreme choke being added to the barrel? I mean, EXTREME........
Why? There is no reason it has to make the barrel opening smaller to do it’s job. It probably has a very mild choke effect just by virtual of making the barrel effectively longer. But there is no reason a silencer would construct the barrel.
“make the barrel longer” was the only thing I was thinking of.......
I thought silencers were against federal law. Wasn’t one of the charges against Randy Weaver that he was going to sell an undercover agent a silencer? Or am I thinking of someone else?
I’m a waterfowler and dove hunter. Waterfowling, if I get to shoot 5 times it’s a good morning. Dove hunting you don’t shoot magnums but you do shoot more often.
I wonder if the extra length and weight would be worth the trouble not wearing electronic ear protection?
They are not against the law if you pay the government a fee to own one.
Used in the commission of a crime is another matter.
$200 tax, and a form to fill out.
Then you wait and wait and wait for your betters to allow you your 'right.'
I have been waiting for a year and counting on my latest purchase.
My local FFL is doing their line of suppressors for .22 and 9mm (almost ready), but nowhere near a 12ga.
Naw, he had allegedly shortened a shotgun barrel just slightly under the limit. Very slightly IIRC.
They’ve been watching your movements and tapping your phone, waiting for a misstep. Good luck.
Normal people can’t get them in Minnesota.
That way, lubs can still have something to bitch about when they move next to a gun range.
Most other states you can.
But surely the Somalis feel safer because of it?
