No, your eyes do not deceive you and thankfully this is no joke Marvel has given an upgrade to one of its biggest superheroes. And by that we mean: theres a new superlady in town and shes wielding the hammer of Thor!
As announced on The View, and confirmed by Marvel, a new comic written by Jason Aaron, with art by Russell Dauterman will launch ongoing this Fall, after the original God of Thunder loses the ability to wield his signature hammer.
Thor doesnt just look like a lady with those long and luscious Norse locks of his Thor IS a lady now and theres no turning back.
This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But its unlike any Thor weve ever seen before, Aaron explained via press release. And, well, theyre certainly right about that:
Look at her! Shes strong! Shes fierce! Her costume looks like something a female superhero could actually wear and logistically fight in without a bevy of nip slips and crackidents! This is a good, good day for us all, folks and surely a relief for our new Thor.
In October, the rise of this new God of Thunder will take place, bucking the inscription on Thors mighty hammer, Mjölnir that Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.
Finally doing right by the thousands of women and girls that read comic books but have been largely underserved in the representation of female strength and superherodom compared to their male counterparts, editor Wil Moss explained away any possibilities that this is but a temporary bit of story-twisting: [T]his new Thor isnt a temporary female substitute shes now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!
So if the editors believe this new mystery woman is more than worthy of the title, effectively marking the biggest change to ever happen to the Marvel big three (a.k.a. their main superheroes, Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor), its got to be good, right?
Obviously the move is sure to be a divisive one amongst those fans who, say, arent too keen on their heroes being female, or just generally hate change of any kind. But its also sort of great, and the sort of gamechanger akin to the race switch in the latest Spider-Man iteration that needs to take place in order to keep stories fresh and moving forward.
Though thats not to say that the move is not without a boatload of questions, regardless of your opinion on her gender. For instance, who is this woman? Where did she come from? Have we seen her before in the Marvel Universe? And was she, too, born on Asgard?
“They’re just making a big deal about it this time.”
Yeah.
It’s announced on The View, ABC.
Marvel is owned by Disney, who also own ABC.
It’s all self promotion.
She should have a mighty rolling pin.
but would laz hit it?
“how do you know some of these gods are not real?”
Because my God crushed them all 2000 years ago!! ;)
“but would laz hit it?”
I’m sure he has, if you know what I mean.
I think that’s more his speed.
Laz would hit the new Thor. With a bigger hammer!
Paging Laz to the “would he hit it” courtesy thread.
Certainly Thor can be a transgendered gay lesbian illegal immigrant person of color.
She looks like my aunt....I will call her Aunt Thorax
Sh*tcan the armor and put her in a string bikini.
Then she can knock out anyone - criminals, bad guys, and everyone else - with just a glimpse.
THAT’S power.
Yeah, that's the ticket.
As if Wonderwoman, Superwoman, the Catwoman overwhelming audience was composed of pre-pubescent and tween girls and not their male counterparts. Don't recall my sister borrowing my super hero comics when I was in grade school but I sure peeked at her Archie and Betty and Veronica comic books...and Jughead and Reggie weren't my points of focus.
Of course, they made her a bi-sexual woman.
Well...Denmark was just around the corner...
This will be news to papa Odin, wife Sif and his kids by her and his mistresses. But, yeah, they’ll make him a lesbian with adopted kids with two mommies.
The Norse god Thor appears to a prostitute, and shouts “I AM MIGHTY THOR!”
The prostitute replies “tho am I, pal, tho am I”.
This is not unprecedented. In the Marvel Universe if you’re worthy, you can wield Thor’s Hammer and, by Odin’s will, Thor’s power can be transferred to those worthy individuals. Beta Ray Bill would be an example of where it has happened before.
Tsk, tsk, the saint you named yourself after would agree with me if I said that you got your dates all wrong.
The God you speak of made clear that there are no other gods beside Him, some 3400 years ago, when He made that His First Commandment and handed it to Moses in addition to nine others.
Obviously, an east German athlete on steroids from the 1970s.
I already thought that the female Thor was Brunnhilde from Die Valkure. Now we have a Thor who can hit high C’s and D flats!
Instead of making a female Thor, Marvel should have created Brunhilde as an already functioning strong female Character. Her primary weapon would have been a devastating high C scream! Indeed, Brunnhilde and Thor could have complemented each other in a number of Marvel comic stories! (of course every hero has a weakness, our heroine’s weakness would have been the need for a conductor and orchestra to enable her operations!)
