Several enthusiastic wiener dogs (and their owners) didn't let a little heat wave interfere with their bid for top honours at the Hastings Racecourse's annual races in Vancouver.
The Wiener Dog Racing Weekend sponsored by hot dog maker Schneider's no less had $2,500 in prizes up for grabs.
Dozens entered, but only one wiener reigned supreme, and that top dog was Roger with a come-from-behind victory, for his SECOND prestigious title.

So cute. I took my kids to the AKC Dog Show in Chicago decades ago and we got there in time to see the Dachshunds lining up in their racing silks. Unforgettably adorable.

I can just see PETA members there protesting the exploitation of wiener.

I love wiener dogs. I’ve had 6 and one is still living. I think they are the cutest little dogs.

We had one years ago. Great pet for little kids...She’d chase a tennis ball for hours...she was also very athletic....we would put strands of spaghetti down on the floor, and she’d jump over them, like a steeplechase.,..

I had a wonderful dachsie when I was 6 years old. We lived near a river and we learned the hard way that they’re lousy swimmers. I was heartbroken.

If you’ve never seen a weiner dog race, it’s worth finding one.
Hilarious. Especially if they have a slo-mo cam. Those ears going up and down in slo-mo will have you ROFL.

We've had three. All gone before their time, but not forgotten (all three are in their final resting place on our mantle over the fireplace, which they'd assuredly approve of). They're arguably the best all-around small family dog I've ever seen. The day will come when we acquire a couple of their new cousins again, and they'll be just as loved. Dachshunds rule.

We never had small dogs when I was growing up. We had dobermans, mastiffs, rottweilers, a couple of goldens... but when my wife and I first met, and she introduced me to her mini longhaired red doxie, my heart melted.
The little chits are incredibly stubborn, but they are very loving and very loyal. My wife always laughs when she sees our 12 lb. doxie running behind all 6’2”, 350 lb. of me.
