Congressional Researcher Thinks the Air Force Already Has a Secret Stealth Bomber
War is Boring ^ | July 10, 2014 | David Axe

On July 9, the U.S. Air Force formally launched the competition to build America’s next stealth bomber. But a July 2 report from the Congressional Research Service questions the flying branch’s official narrative.

According to CRS’ Jeremiah Gertler, it appears the Air Force already has new bomber prototypes in the air—and the competition could be a sham.

Perhaps not coincidentally, Gertler’s skepticism comes just four months after civilians glimpsed what appeared to be previously unknown stealth warplanes flying over Texas.

If I remember correctly, Aurora was actually the “black” line-item code name for the B-2. This would be a wholly new bomber, probably a drone.

My parents owned land near the huge Eglin AFB reservation. One evening near dusk, I saw an airplane flying just hundreds of yards away. It was shaped just like the model stealth fighter.

Of course I thought that was what it was. As it turned out, the model did not look anything like the real one.

I still have no idea what it was. I will say that Eglin is one of those bases where all kinds of interesting things are always going on.

I was in the Air Force from 1977-81. After I left I read Tom Clancy's novel Red Storm Rising where he depicts the USAF having a super secret stealth aircraft for first day of battle strike against high value targets. I thought to myself "that's impossible. You'd never keep something like that so secret."

Then the USAF revealed the F-117A and I was very wrong.

So my first reaction to this article is to also say "impossible" but I have to temper it with my previous experiences.

Aurora was supposed to be a hypersonic replacement for the SR-71 recon aircraft. There was some sightings of "donuts on a rope" contrails as "proof" but then nothing.

They don’t have a single secret aircraft they are hiding. Nope not a single one.

They have several.

Retract the landing gear and flaps for better performance.

True. Analysis of those recent sightings (theaviationist.com did a good one) showed two distinctly different planforms.

And there have been rumors for years that the YF-23 (ATF competator that lost to the F-22) was developed and put into limited production as an F-117 replacement in the F-111 interdiction/medium bomber class.
