Musk ox invasion keeps Nome wildlife managers busy
Anchorage Daily News ^ | comJuly 2, 2014 | SEAN DOOGAN

Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.

Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

It’s close enough to walk to the circle track, though the pits are in the infield. At The Strip, they are behind the stands. I could just cross the street and go under the stands and see the races after I’ve seen the races at The Strip!

Go for it ... Make Danica jealous. I know with the right wheels you can outrun Danica and all those byos that call themselves drivers ... You’ll be the first female to win on the NASCAR Sprint Series. I’ll meet ya in NY when ya take home the championship title. Danica and those byos aren’t undead people and undead people can do anything. I’m betting on you!

Time to recline for a bit and veg out in front of the TV. I miss being home. It’s no fun here alone. The house is too big and the race car smells like high octane.

I’ve finished mailing bills and cleaning, for now. I guess I should check on laundry again. Maybe I’ll load up the Offspring and go to the bank; there’s a branch that’s open on Saturday.

I figured as long as I’m here being bored, I could do something constructive, so I put the sheets in the washer. I’ll also put the coverlet in, since I have no idea how long it has been in its current state of use.

Homesick is what I am...

We went to the bank and Walmart.

Oh, here’s Tom. He’s sunburned and he smells bad.

Sounds like me, except for the “sunburned” part.

Kathleen saw him and said, “Tom! You have a sunburn!” “No, I don’t.” “You’re ORANGE!”

My bad. I got horizontal on the sofa and dozed. Now I’m having some tightness in my chest.

Busdaddy just sent me a text saying Pike’s Peak was awesome and this is the “best birthday ever.” That’s good to hear!

Poor Tom. The former will take a few days to cure but the latter just a few minutes.

same neck of the woods.

Which raises the important question, "What part of the woods is the neck?"

It's what you come to just after you head in. If you're more than halfway in, you're on your way out again.

Tom ran a load of wash that should have been 2-1/2 loads. I will Grouse at him when he returns.

Why do guys do that? They never seem to outgrow it, either.

I have to wash a load but I just keep putting it off. It’s one of those days, I guess.
