Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.
Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

14 pounds...
My old PC was an HP. They used to be good, but just like Gateway, as soon as the quantity went up, the quality went down. No more!
LOL
My first laptop that I bought was a Toshiba back in the days of Win 95OSR2. It lasted a long time, eventually ending up with Win 2K on it. A lightning strike unfortunately killed it. To get a 'quality' HP, you need to buy one of the business models. Their 'consumer' stuff is only a slight cut above basura.
That said, my 3 laptops are HP (well, the oldest one is actually a Compaq from before HP - which was the replacement for the Toshiba.) None of them remain in the original configuration. The Compaq is running Linux Mint 17, and the other two have Win7 Ultimate on them. All of them received a new, faster drive along with the op system update and the business model I have received a solid state drive.
I bought both Mrs. NoC and Beautiful Daughter HP desktops because they were on sale. Before I dumped them on their respective recipients desks I extensively reworked certain things interior to the machine like ditching the cheap 230 w power supplies in both and replacing with a Thermaltake 500 w unit, adding a discrete video board (with passive cooling so I won't have to fuss with seized cooler fan bearings in a year), and uninstalling or otherwise disabling all the HP bloatware. And then as soon as the warranty was up they got a 7200rpm hard drive and Win7 Ultimate rebraining. The original hard drive got relegated to data storage and it was with great pleasure that I departitioned it (HP had 3 partitions on the drive), and reformatted to forever bury the HP Win7Homely stuff. (It took me longer to pry access to Beautiful Daughter's machine from her. The drive with Win7 Ult was in the machine for almost 6 months before she let me take her 'offline' for however long it took me to make the switch and transfer files..)
If those units were not on sale it would have been cheaper for me to build both from scratch, but would have taken me longer. My own beige boxes, er, black boxes are home built so if and/or when I have hardware issues I can't blame anyone but my supply staff...
But yes, I probably would not buy a new HP laptop - since I build my own desktop units, or if I do, it definitely would not be the consumer line. And that is my opinion as one who could fuss with the thing if it acted up, something that not everyone can or would want to do.
Now I'll go get a haircut so this weekend I look semihuman when I see all these old people who insist I went to high school with them 50 years ago.
Afternoon T-c! Afternoon Everyone.
Afternoon. I should get Kathleen up. Anyway, Pat wants to do math here.
Ungh. I can see I’ll be fighting with this for the next week. I shut it off to activate the larger font, and there were 56 updates to install and then configure. *sigh*
And my coughing is starting up, which is not good...*groan*
Now I can’t get smaller pages...it just wants me to use full screen and it makes my eyes tired. I need to learn this system ASAP.
Prayers Everyone and my favorite song for this day ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ehbc1zU1BwQ
I can remember when Billy Crystal said, “Women need a reason to have sex. Men just need a place.”
I’m not sure he’s right about the young women these days.
When I was young Feminism meant freedom from being a sex object. Now it seems to meen freedom to be a sex object.
I worked at Compaq for 5.5 years. Any HP laptop you buy is made at the old Compaq facility.
I’ve talked with my old friends - the attention to quality isn’t the same.
Wait, are you saying that a stone weighs 14 lbs or that a stone costs 14 pounds?
This is getting confusing.
“Feminism” was always twisted and tainted. If you want to be feminine, dress and act the part. If you want to be a feminist, dress and act like a dude. No one will ever mistake the two.
I loved my Compaq and never had any problems with it. Except, it wasn’t a laptop. I’m sorry HP ruined them.
OK. A “stone” equals how much in American pounds: 12 or 14?
All I can say is I better never have to pass a 14 lb stone.
Ayyyy chihuahua!!!!
LOL!
It’s within the realm of possibility that this group was just going to play computer games, but he’s still not going to be jumping into a near occasion of sin using our car!
LOL,
That brings tears to the Eyes.
I suspect this group is not necessarily a squeaky clean bunch. Back in the day, the dorms were separate for a reason. Rules were in place to keep the students separate for a reason.
While I understand that things are “different,” these days, the laws of morality will never change, no matter who ignores them or disguises them with honey.
I don’t think they actually have separate dorms at UNC-Charlotte, just separate rooms.
