Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.
Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

I work hard at losing weight, but I think one of these days, I’ll wake up and the struggle will all be behind me....
Actually, it has to come off. It’s not good for my spinal arthritis, and I know it. So I’m really working on dropping 40 pounds. More than that and I’ll resemble the saggy, baggy old lady I don’t want to be!
Or fattening.
For heaven’s sake. When I suggested we could solve our funding problems by selling our recycle paper to the NSA I was JOKING.
Nope - fattening stuff is illegal, or they’re trying to make it so.
You’ve heard about our 32-oz soda ban, right?
A simple (((Hug))) fixes most things. :)
I’ll take that! It’s non-fattening! THANKS!!
:o])
Tomorrow is my weigh day, too. I’m not looking forward to it - I’ve been really off this week. However, if I go to the meeting, it’s a win.
I got a nice card with a frog stamp in the mail today. Very uplifting!
:o])
I’ve had the stamp (and two more frog stamps) for a very long time, but couldn’t find a green ink in pad that was big enough. Office Depot had them, so I ordered a green and a black one on payday. The green one is special order, but even though it didn’t cost any more, I had to wait two weeks for it!
I’ll use all three stamps in the near future!
It’s nice to know one of my frogs helped your spirits! *happy dance*
My back doesn’t hurt much right now. If I remember to take some pills before bed, so I can sleep comfortably, I might be all better by tomorrow.
Good deal!
I’m hoping that same thing with my foot. I have kept it elevated, applied ice every hour or so and kept it wrapped tightly, so I’m hoping it is healing. Occasionally, it will sting on the underside of my foot (the arch) but with neuropathy, pain is debatable and a topic for wiser minds than mine.
For instance, if I have neuropathy, does it still hurt but I’m just not aware of it? Or is there truly no pain? If there IS pain, but I don’t feel it, will the injury be more severe?
There must be something better to contemplate than this...she mutters to herself.
That's your key question. Keep it wrapped up and BE CAREFUL.
I have several wraps, Very Large, Small and Form-fitting, and as the swelling goes down, I will change the wrap accordingly. I DO worry about the lack of pain, but at least I’m knowledgeable enough to realize that the fault is not mine, but my body’s, and that since it is not responding normally to the injury, then I have to step in and make sure that I do my best to make it is healing properly.
You will weigh less, because you'll be standing on one foot.
Always happy to explain things, m'dear.
You know you’re tired when that makes sense.
Thanks, Bob! (You GUY, you!)
That makes so much sense, I don’t even want to admit it. What would I do without the two of youse to keep me upright and functioning?
Well, somebody is keeping you hopping.
There. I fixed it.
Since this is the cat that on the occasions we have taken her to the Vet has clawed her paws bloody trying to dig the wire gate on the cat carrier open, forcing her into a vet trip might do more damage than good. She doesn't seem to be suffering, just occasionally confused (now). We haven't seen her jump, yet we find her up in the window, in her 'favorite' box on top of the freezer, and other places that would require jumping to get in them.
We are hoping that when she gets to the point of needing a forever sleep that she will slip away on her own like her brother did, since with the travel issue, taking her to the vet for that service might not be an act of mercy.
Other than reported above, it's still too soon to tell about any 'permanent' personality or behavioral changes. Rags was not a very 'you need to pet, cuddle, and pay attention to me NOW' kind of cat so gauging any personality changes may in itself be difficult. Only time she got insistent was when she entered the 'you're not feeding me properly, I want food now' zone. Since Mrs. NoC was the one that got that particular type of attention I don't know if that is still the case or not, all I was told is that she is eating.
Things are stable right now and I hope they stay that way for a while, especially since I will be out of town from sometime Thursday until after Labor Day. I don't want to drop everything and drive back from the Buckeye State for any pet emergency.
But if Bugtussel is anywhere close to I-80/OTP I might wave and honk the horn at TOL as I drive past... ;-)
Sorry about your kitteh. I was just wondering where Jake is this morning ... but here he is!
