Musk ox invasion keeps Nome wildlife managers busy
Anchorage Daily News ^ | comJuly 2, 2014 | SEAN DOOGAN

Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.

Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

Excellent news about Conscientious Shawn. The military does teach one to clean up!

He is in the medical field with a specialty in ophthalmology. He goes once a month to Luke AFB so he is aware of medical problems. Plus, his uncle is on dialysis, so he has a certain amount of empathy for the disabled.

I’m happy, but I will call the company after his next visit and tell them NOT to change him.

After he left, the agency rep came and asked how I liked the company and I told them of the difficulty of communication. They just don’t seem to GET it!

I need to be notified, no matter what. I really got ugly yesterday, and told them what they were doing was unacceptable. Hopefully, the rep can make some inroads.

Meanwhile, we have weather...

Outdoor cats are indoors. Imagine that...

Shawn the Conscientious...

And is he a Shawn Shawn, or a Sean Shawn?

I started to write “Sean” but remembered that he told me his name was “Deshawn” (however he spelled it) and I just picked up on “Shawn.” Considering the source of course.

At any rate, I’m happy with him. (Shawn is feminine and Sean is masculine, and both mean “John.” Who am I to debate a mom?)

Stuck in Matamoras at the moment.
Line down across the road, they aren’t letting anyone out.
Road bottlenecks, only one entrance/exit.

Wasn’t there a song about wasting away in Matamorasville? Something about a shaker of salt and all that...

I played that game last Tuesday. Took me over an hour to travel ten minutes.

I got to circle the same intersection from three different directions before I got home.

It occurred to me that I could pull over and take a nap and make just as much progress.

Good Luck, and be careful!

Umm... Eyes in the sky (or where ever??)

See what this guy sez...

The couple of red light cameras I know of are in Jersey, but I hear that a nearby town here in NewYak is thinking of/are going to install them...

in the U.K. there has been no end
They only put red light cameras at accident black spots; Speed cameras are another subject altogether.

in some U.K. cities you are on CCTV cameras from the time you walk out
your home’s door to when you enter your place of work, and in reverse at
the end of the day

Yep, with facial recognition as well.

is the invasion of your Liberty worth it
That point is debatable at the moment.
It does deter a lot of crime and solve mysteries at the same time.
When they start using it for less savoury purposes it will be time to think again.
So far the system has only been used to assist during incidents, time will tell.
They are only installed with the permission of the local council, so are easily removed if the people no longer require their presents in their lives.
This does occur if the location cannot be justified as with a valid reason.

We’re about to head out for the gym, and then we’re going to a funeral. I hope you get a good start to the day! If you’re feeling really hungry, eat more - just not high-carb stuff.

If you don’t eat enough, your metabolism thinks your throat has been cut, and you won’t lose weight as effectively.

I’m not having a good day so far. It’s hard to breathe among other things, and woke up at 0230. Meh.

I ate an ulcer cocktail then, but my stomach is still bothering me. I want to go back to bed but things aren’t looking good in that direction.

Busdaddy wants me to come over and help him install the security system, but I don’t know if that’s a good idea at this time.

Two breathing treatments later, I still feel shaky. Ungh.

Pennsylvania.
Much like Transylvania, but minus the garlic fetish.

Yeah, glad I didn’t go that way upon being able to escape.
Hit route 84 to exit 2.
Port Jervis and Matamoras were torn up.

You should not drive if you are shaky. It’s not safe.

Something happened to my back at the gym. Hopefully it will sort itself out! I can stretch it a little, carefully, after the funeral.

Not very many people take that perspective.
