Musk ox invasion keeps Nome wildlife managers busy
Anchorage Daily News ^ | comJuly 2, 2014 | SEAN DOOGAN

Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.

Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

I moved the cats and turned the air on! In a few minutes, I’ll put Kathleen to bed.

It’s too sticky to do much of anything that takes any energy; maintenance still hasn’t come to get the serial numbers.

Busdaddy will be over soon and we will go to the gun shop. If maintenance hasn’t come by the time we get back, I’m putting everything (cookbooks and cold cereal) back on the fridge, and sticking the frying pans back in the oven. It’s been over a week, now, and I’m tired of waiting. I need to get some meat out of the freezer.

Hopefully, the window will be replaced today, but in all the flurry of the aftermath, the fact that the mini blinds and the vertical drapes were trashed didn’t quite make it to the insurance lists. What a bummer this has all been.

Was just hoping that one of those flash floods would cleanse the place, but I guess that won’t happen, eh?

I sent all the boys to clean up their room while I had some quiet time with Jake. Not much has happened, room-cleaning-wise, but Jake was happy and I’m covered with fur.

I keep hoping for something like that, but it doesn’t happen. However, as I said, he does live downhill from here, so hope springs eternal.

I did some running around with Busdaddy, but we never got over to see the dog. He was mostly checking things for security purposes and checking the cost of doggie doors.

I tried once again to download the pics from the camera but it’s a job for Superman. I will have to tackle it again in the morning.

This has definitely been one of “those” days. I’m heading for more Ibuprofen.

OK, Sports Fans...I know you aren’t ready for this, but there has been a documented tornado close to the Colorado River, south of us.

Flash flooding is the Order Of the Day, though, and lots of folks are reeling from the personal impact. Newcomers are the most affected...they have no clue what fast moving waters can do to you and your property.

They don’t pay attention to the commercials that say, “Turn around! Don’t drown!”

Y’all hang on. My family needs to go check out the security precautions for the galaxy.

I’ll report back later.

Subtle is not a word known the Weather in your neck of the woods, is it.(?)

‘Face will always be safe. ‘Face has lived in enough parts of the country to be prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws her way. I’ve survived earth quakes, flash floods and tornadoes, and don’t intend to give in to a tornado wannabe in the middle of the desert!

Thanks for asking, Moosie! It means a lot.
