BALTIMORE (WJZ)West Baltimore looked a little like the Wild Wild West on Friday morning. A steer running through the streets of Baltimore catches the attention of drivers and police. This after it escaped from a city slaughterhouse.

Let me guess, they fired over 300 rounds, wounded over a dozen bystanders, and caused several thousand dollars worth of property damage, but they got their man, I mean steer!
I thought the dog/police people would love this as more evidence of police/animal brutality.
Still don’t know the whole situation (too busy today), but actually sounds like maybe they shouldn’t have shot the animal. At least, not at that point.
Wondering why they couldn’t call animal control (granted, don’t know how many of those they have in the city) and get dart guns. My husband read an article that claimed they couldn’t use the current tranqs because they were “not effective enough”, or some such rot as being “cruel” to the animal.
PETA mindset implemented ridiculous concerns like that tranq issue, and guess who is complaining about this story? PETA. They reap what they sow, but they would never see it.
Actually, one officer ran to the scene and said he thought they SAID “pit bull” in the bulletins!
Not shocking, actually.
They r series...
BTW, Marylanders - and maybe other FReepers - guess what?
It was the RUPPERSBERGER’S SLAUGHTERHOUSE!
Yes, THAT Ruppersberger family!
Series, and HUGH!
I’m at the beginnin’ of gettin’ “ long in the tooth”....I’ll always get a chuckle outta some of the gems that come from FR;-)
They shot it? It probably can’t be legally slaughtered there now (too long from stun to slaughter). In the West, we’d fetch a trailer, load the steer, and take it back to where it came from. Cattle are worth a lot these days.

Exactly, that was part of my problem with it.
I don’t know what they did with it right after the killing, but at least I’m assuming they let it sit there for a while while they “investigate” and secure the area. I heard it may have been “unsafe” because of a few bullets! LOL - what do they think of people eating their wild deer full of buckshot?
A person on that site claims he ended up at a rendering plant. At least maybe there was some use out of it.
I had no idea there were even any slaughterhouses left in Baltimore city. Wow!
+1
“Where you from, boy?”
“Baltimore.”
“Well, there’s only two things that come out of Baltimore: steers and queers, and I don’t see no horns . . .”
MOOland “Freak State” PING!
Dutch??!!
======================================================== Martin said the officer was called to the 6900 block of Williamsburg Boulevard about 6:40 a.m. after the deer jumped over a guardrail on Interstate 66 and plunged 30 feet to the road below. After consulting with his supervisor -- a lieutenant in the patrol division -- the officer fired a single shot at the deer's head, Martin said, in accordance with the department's policy to kill any suffering or dangerous animal. But the deer didn't die. Instead of shooting the animal a second time, the sergeant authorized two other responding officers to drive a cruiser over the deer's neck. That, too, did not kill the animal. Finally, Martin said, the three officers wrapped a plastic bag around the deer's head and suffocated it. A photograph of the dead deer and the sergeant was taken by one of the other officers, but Martin said the sergeant's explanation for the Polaroid was that it was needed for the incident report. The department, Martin added, is conferring with other agencies on their policies so that Arlington County, which responds to one or two such incidents a year, is better equipped to handle the situation next time.
