Put a middle-age white woman in prison over unpaid fines. What could possibly go wrong?
No, I don't think her death was of "natural causes".

Americans of all political stripes are denouncing the practice and likening it to the debtors prisons from the nations Colonial days. and yet, these Americans continue to send their children to government school... 180 days a year for 13 years...

I am sorry that an event like this is necessary to force a study of social not criminal actions.
Since 1999...15 years? There is something much greater going on in this event and family!

In our village idiot's (Bob Carey Jr.) hometown of Scranton, we had a major scandal which broke the year or so before Jerry Sandusky kicked it off the front page: a Democrat judge was sending kids to juvenile detention for bullsh*t petty charges like this.
It turned out that he was being paid handsomely by the jail contractor (surprise! Another well-connected Democrat) who wanted to keep his detention facilities full so he could maximize the $300 plus per kid per day charge which was billed to the local county.
Given that this is Philadelphia, a city which makes even the sewage pond of Scranton look relatively clean, I've got to wonder if something similar is in play here.

May she R.I.P.
If no one could come forward to help her with her children’s truancy fines, I wonder who will pay her burial expenses (which are huge anyplace in this country)? And who will raise her children?

Today, you can not go to jail for any debt EXCEPT OF COURSE IF YOU OWE IT TO THE GOVERNMENT.

"DiNino had no ability to pay her $2,000 fine. She was reportedly unemployed, on welfare, and completely overwhelmed by her [SEVEN] children."
What?!? Had she claimed immaculate conception for the seven children, or was the court not able to find the children's father(s)?

I’m glad we send my daughter to private school. She misses numerous days each year due to sickness yet still maintains the highest average in her grade. In public school this would count for nothing because the school gets paid per student-day.

Sorry, but there must be enforcement action with teeth if ANY laws are going to mean anything, particularly good laws.
If theft under $20 is a misdemeanor, a citation, basically, then what happens when the offender, who is caught red-handed, ignores court orders to pay the fine, refuses to come to court when summoned, and consequently racks up other contempt charges? Call him a 'bad boy' and make it all good?

I could be wrong but I believe another article I read stated that she was asked to produce evidence that she couldn’t pay it to court but she didn’t.
This article does not address that if it’s true.

I seem to remember that going back at least to the 50s and before that; if truancy was a problem then the truant kid was sent to reform school, not the parent. If the penalty doesn’t fall on the truant kids then there is no reason for them to do other than let their parents take the hits.

fines related to school truancy are quite small perhaps $20 but its the court-related costs that are most expensive, sometimes reaching $150. A fine should be a fine. It's not an excuse for the robbers in black robes to get a blank check to pad their pension funds.

I guess the Pennsylvania law enforcement and legal system sure showed this hardened criminal, Eileen DiNino, who had accumulated those unpaid school fines, didn't they? Now the woman is dead and the authorities are still scratching their butts and doing their best at CYA. Don't worry because the MSM is going to be right on top of this story. Believe that and I've got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. The authorities have to bury this one pronto.
To: Rusty0604
I say we put the truant students in jail; but if we must jail parents, then let us jail the FATHERS not the mothers. If the fathers are not in the picture, then double the jail sentence. In the teen years, especially with sons, it is difficult for mothers to control rebellious teens, especially if they are raising their children alone.

I'm going to do some math here. She had 55 citations since 1999. So that averages out to 3.6 a year. And she has 7 children. So her kids were truant (whatever that means) on the average of ONCE every TWO years.
This is a reason to declare her kids out of control?
I won't even get into the idea of punishing people to force them to send their kids to those kiddy prisons they call "schools". For the record, BAD IDEA.
