The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
I have my first baby T! I never saw a bloom, which is really weird, but there is no doubt it’s a baby.
We got a half inch of rain from a thunderstorm yesterday (plus more off/on today) and you can almost see the plants growing, The cucuzza has two climbing tendrils touching the fence - that was 4 hours ago so I’m sure it’s grabbed on by now.
Tromboodles sounds great! I heed to get a noodle maker soon. Here’s a recipe I saw yesterday .... plus she puts her noodles in the oven briefly to knock some of the moisture out of them: http://www.thankyourbody.com/recipe-zucchini-noodles-with-sauteed-vegetables/
I gave my friend half a tromboncino squash awhile back, and she sliced it lengthwise, brushed it with olive oil and grilled it. Said it was good.
My next door neighbor borrowed my zoodle maker (aka, Paderno World Cuisine tri-blade slicer). She loved the zoodles, and wanted to get a zoodle maker. The next day her daughter and I hit the thrift shops while she was at work, and found one that had never been used for four bucks. Her Mom was thrilled at our good luck finding her one (and saving her over 30 bucks).
I’ll be heading to the two Goodwill shops in the area tomorrow ..... :-)

That recipe looks yummy. The other day Walmart had a big display of those vegetti noodle makers shown on that recipe page. They were 14 bucks.
If Goodwill doesn’t pan out ( I’d have to get lucky), Walmart will work just fine - thanks for the info!
Thanks for that link. Now that I’ve been banned by the Dr. from having pasta, I will have to try that.
Thanx to Qiviut. I just posted it in reply to her. Your wife has a zoodler, right? Well, get to zoodling, and juicing, RD
Zoodling, and jJuicing..sounds like code words for something illegal.
We may try this recipe this weekend. We have not made any veggie noodles yet with the noodler, so this would be a first.
I started a diet group in our neighborhood group on FB Tuesday morning. I only had one response all day till about 3pm, then it broke loose. That first day we wound up having 12 members.
This morning, I posted this recipe, both the link, and pasted the body of the page on a page in our group.
Our little weight group is getting some good responses, along with helpful suggestions, and people supporting other people as they try to lose weight and feel better. It’s kinda like an online AA or WW, sorta. The power of a group kinda thing. I feel like the whole neighborhood is behind me, a bunch of people I haven’t ever met. I need to acquire a scale now to register progress.
It’s the weekend in a few hours. Oh boy, 2 days at home with my wonderful wife! I feel good!
I hope you survived your grandbabysitting, with or w/o drugs. 6 is a handful, I could hardly take all 6 of ours at once, but its getting easier as they age a little. The youngest is 4+ now, so she’s not a screaming curtain climber anymore. Now she is a princess. I hadn’t seen her in 2 yrs till 2 weeks ago.
Did you get any rain last night? It went right around us. I took the plastic off my Texas Prepper’s Greenhouse yesterday. The 6 ml. plastic didn’t tear, just pulled the staples out, so I hope to re-use it this winter. Put shade cloth over the whole thing. Haven’t stapled it yet. Guess I should do that, but it’s already getting hot outside.
I just checked the rain gauge, I had about an 8th inch.
We have NO tomatos on our plants now, whatever to a liking to green tomato juice got all of them.
I guess I’m just a pepper farmer now. lol
I hope you are doing better over there.
Remember I really praised molasses to kill slugs and other soft belly critters? Well it doesn’t kill little black, beattle like critters, with red and yellow spots. All of a sudden, overnight, my squash all died. I went out the next
day to pick more squash...nothing, nada. Not a squash baby in sight, just dead vines. When I pulled up the roots along came these tiny “pretty looking” beatles, and they run deep. I dug down about 8 or 9 inches and those things were still running around. I’m taking some to our trusty
feed store fellow and see what he suggests. We’re discovering more creatures. Gardening is interesting.
Gardening is interesting, rewarding, and demoralizing. C’est la vie.
