UNIONVILLE, MI (WNEM) -
Unionville has its own school system, flower shop, and bar - but a police department is missing in the Tuscola County community.
A thumb-area town is left without any police after the two-person department quit, leaving a glaring hole in the community.
Village resident Bob Hare said he was upset to learn that both of the town's police officers resigned last week. Village officials said the former officers turned in a resignation letter citing irreconcilable differences between them and the village council.
"I think we need some protection around here," Hare said.

Dogs breathe a sigh of relief.
It wouldn’t surprise me the Village Council issued them some very ridiculous Rules of Law Enforcement to follow.
Boss Hogg situation?
There’s still law enforcement at the state and county levels, and if the village police department was only comprised of two people, I find it hard to believe that their resignation would cause any real issues.
One less speed trap in the world.
Time to activate the local militia.
That’s what it’s for.
I’m thinkin’ only good will come of this.
Don’t really know. But it wouldn’t surprise me. I don’t know if this is a Democrat area or conservative....but it isn’t a lie that Democrats in charge can be capricious, officious and absolute, even when it is against the law.
Probably. Most tiny police departments like that are pretty decent once they’re trained in local norms.
Were the two cops upset because the town wouldn’t cover the cost of their steroid injections? Or did they want to buy some cool assault gear and the mayor said no?
There were no more dogs left to shoot?
My experience, too. My town’s police force is pretty decent. No Rambos or SWAT wannabe’s.
We had 5 cops and were all on a first name basis with them. I used to take my dog and go down and have coffee with the chief a couple of times per week.
We really couldn’t afford them and an outside group of idiots put a lot of money into getting rid of the. Personally I suspect they had to be eliminated to avoid standing in the way of the Feds Hutaree raid.
A police department that only has two officers probably doesn’t need any. I’m sure the county sheriff or state police can pick up the slack.
There is nothing good about “Federal”.
The locals wouldn’t have gone in with flash bangs, assault teams, tactical vehicles, and choppers. The chief would have just gone down there and knocked on the door and asked what was going on.
Instead the taxpayers spent millions for a big militia raid, federal trial, and acquittals.
Your stellar vocabulary deserves a graphic!
I’ve always wondered where the Executive Branch renders their need for a “police force” in the several constitutions?
Sheriff? I see that.
Jack-boots answering to a CEO....well, not so much.
My home town ended up running off several “LEO-types” because, well, let’s just say they were supplementing their personal income according to certain addictions of the citizenry. I couldn’t tell you the “health” of that Public Safety Department right now.
