Compared with their low-level counterparts, individuals with high levels of cynical distrust are three times more likely to develop dementia, researchers say.

Well, that pretty much does it for Freepers. It's all over unless you change your ways and believe ALL that 'Dear Leader' and his minions have to say......

It's off to the government 'home' confinement for Freepers.

Sorry, but cynicism is also a product of learning that there are a lot of idiots out there.

Most of them either work in the gubmit, voted for the Obamadork...or both.

And, after all, if one is not cynical about liberalism, one has much more serious cognitive problems.

Cynics say not that other people CAN be influenced by selfishness, but that they MUST be influenced by selfishness.

Sometimes the cynics save themselves from disappointment that way, but they can also let a lot of goodness just fall on the floor.

Also, this is about Alzheimer’s disease, a particular kind of dementia. Not about dementia in general.

The bad cynic is the one who dismisses everything as incorrigibly selfish.

Optimist: The glass is half full.
Pessimist: The glass is half empty.
Me: Who took the other half?

The flip side of a cynical attitude is a realistic one.

LOL I was searching for an article with “cynicism” in the title and had to stop and read the thread.

My grandmother and aunt had alzheimers so of course I want to avoid it. I realized that I do not trust anyone either and better change my attitude. As a child I was naive and believed like the Quakers that everyone was good and had the light. Then in my twenties my world came tumbling down to have the pendulum swing to the opposite extreme.

So I was just thinking that I should look at the glass as half full when I have the means to fill it OR look at the glass as half empty when I do not have the means to fill it.

People I ask for help, haven’t been there. Others who have just heard my needs in discussion, have helped. Asking for help = half empty. Speaking about it = half full.

right now the glass is totally empty and I am only talking to God.
