Pet jerky treats, mostly imported from China, are being linked to more than 1,000 deaths in dogs, more than 4,800 complaints about animal illness, and, for the first time, sickness in three people who ate the products, federal health officials said Friday, according to nbcnews.com.
But Food and Drug Administration officials say they still can't identify a specific cause for the reported illnesses or deaths, despite seven years of tests and investigation.

If your dog happens to be one of the dead ‘tiny minority’, percentages are not going to matter much.

We don’t use much chicken anyway.
[doesn’t every hideous epidemic usually start there?]

Don’t blame you one bit.
Since chicken products seem to find their way into even non-chicken pet foods via ‘chicken fat preserved with alpha-tocopherols” and such, it’s going to be even harder to avoid this crap.

LOL! Both my current dogs love carrots...my boy is thrilled each time I get the cutting board out (he waits for me to miss the target with the "peels" - scarfs 'em up!) and even my older girl likes the "carrot toss game"...Roscoe would eat about anything, I think (he's the first one we've ever had that would eat iceberg lettuce - so have to watch him out in the yard) but even Lucy likes SOME raw veg...perhaps they don't realize it's not a biscuit? Ha!
Don't give them much "fruit treats" (apples sometimes, possibly bananas...they'll consider)...and they DO like nuts, sweet potatos and squash...but ALL things in moderation, of course, with or without "beef gravy"...
They mostly eat kibs, with small amount of canned, presumably made in USA, which is as it should be!

Damn near.
Not only human and pets, but the plant world is being attacked by insects coming in from China in wooden pallets. The Asian Longhorn Beetle is killing our Sugar Maples up here in the NE.

BLUE BUFFALO is my doggie’s food...hey, are Milkbone biscuits made in US?
To: Salamander
I buy all my meat from Whole Foods, its not even THAT much more expensive with rising food prices. At least I know its raised in US, doesn’ t have antibiotics and toxins. BTW, it doesn’t taste ‘chemical”.

Some borer beetle is killing our pines, cedars and Leyland cypress like crazy.
The tops of the mountains which were formerly covered in pine are barren wastelands.

At Sam’s I buy Betsy Farms “Natural Chicken Jerky Fillets.” It is labeled “Made in the USA.” I telephoned the company and was told that their chickens are, as the package states, raised in Idaho.
Seems safe to me. And my dog loves them.
