Pet jerky treats, mostly imported from China, are being linked to more than 1,000 deaths in dogs, more than 4,800 complaints about animal illness, and, for the first time, sickness in three people who ate the products, federal health officials said Friday, according to nbcnews.com.
But Food and Drug Administration officials say they still can't identify a specific cause for the reported illnesses or deaths, despite seven years of tests and investigation.

While they’re terrible for putting all manner of toxic things into the food and treats they manufacture, it’s not always China that’s the problem. “Greenies” were the worst, domestic if I’m not mistaken. There were and probably still are those organic dried chicken chips and strips. Both have led to far too many canine fatalities. Well-meaning family members gave Greenies as gifts, I bought the dried chicken chips myself. The dogs had a fit over the chicken, loved them. Weren’t so wild about the Greenies. I think they just don’t digest well and eventually lead to perforation, not any better than eating hard plastic in that regard. I had no problems with any of my dogs because of those. I would have felt very guilty if they had.
Switch to Soylent Green. Makes for a better treat for you and your dogs.
I used to feed my pets older pet food, bought 6 or more months before feeding. I used to stockpile pet food, just as I’m storing food for the family in the event of an economic collapse or other catastrophe.
Now, I do it on purpose to safeguard my pet’s health.
Even the expensive premium brands are not exempt. I had older bags of Natural Balance grain free cat food when the first poisonings from China started. That was melamine in the rice that Natural Balance imported.
Our dogs love anything sweet potato related. Tonight we’re having shrimp and they are wild for shrimp skins. We also feed them barf. Bones and raw food... usually raw chicken. It’s the cooked bones that are dangerous and they never get those. We did stop the barf for a while because our son was living here and on medication that lowered his immune system. He has moved out now but we got out of the habit. Our dogs lost multiple teeth whereas before they had wonderful teeth so once a day now they get the barf. Occasionally Mr. Mercat will buy them rawhide chews but only those made in USA. Our dachshund steals them all and hides them around the house though. Mostly its science diet for older dogs. Our ACD is over 15. About 108, but still walks Mr. M two miles a day and chases toys.
Surely that can't be true??? It's the PROCESSING that's the problem?!!!
If it IS true, then Congress must stop/"repeal" that particular "rule"!
I’d like to be on that list as well.
I was shocked to hear a few days ago a story about a woman who purchased Jerky Treats from Costco that ended up killing her dog..I know Costco is known for selling everything but why sell any kind of dog food made in China, that is just a disaster waiting to happen
I’ve got one that loves tomatoes. He also loves pears and eats them off the ground under the pear trees in the yard.
We are importing over 90% of the seafood consumed now that Agenda 21 based fishing regulations have shipwrecked the American fishing industry.
I would be real careful about eating any imported fish or shrimp.
The Chinese govt. themselves admitted last week to widespread heavy metal contamination of their farmland.
old news
Where did your shrimp come from?
Wow that reply took me by surprise.
It sounds like the producers and the government are “jerking” people around!
NOTHING from China for my maltepoo babies. Lil girl loves raw green beans. Her dad doesn`t but I buy Picnic cat treats for both. Made in US and they get them occassionally. They love them.
The user you are looking for is Joe 6-pack. I’m going to ping him.
