A deep sea lancetfish washed up alive on a Nags Head, North Carolina beach on Monday.
The species have long, high dorsal fins and can grow over six feet long. Their jaws contain several long fang-like teeth as well as several smaller teeth. The station notes that very little is known about the biology of the fish, except that they live in all oceans....

Too bad they threw it back, looks like it is qualified for the White House Press Pool.

That’s actually a pretty “normal” looking animal. Most of the really deep critters are horrific. Particularly with that large dorsal, that would make a really interesting mount.

Dude, where have you been? Did you know that Obama is in the White House now? The “press corps” are all lap dogs now.

I caught a few of these down at Tucker’s Pond. You use cheese for bait. Just press a bunch of Velveeta on a hook and toss it in. Not much of a fighter. Don’t try to eat one! They have about a million bones. Hang ‘em out on the clothesline for a week or two. My Uncle used to smoke ‘em, but I can never keep ‘em lit.

I totally agree, the only fish I ever had mounted was a Bowfin; primitive looking fish and one of the few fish that are not worth eating (I have tried).
This one, I’d want to talk to the taxidermist to see if I could get the meat to give it a taste, since it was fresh and when would you get a chance again?
