RYE BROOK - New York Republicans have officially nominated Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino (R) as their candidate in the race for governor.
Republicans wrapped up their state party convention Thursday at the Hilton Hotel in Rye Brook after nominating Astorino. Other candidates nominated include Onondaga County Comptroller Bob Antonacci for comptroller and chief of staff to former Gov. George Pataki John Cahill as attorney general.
Astorino says his success in Westchester shows he can appeal to all kinds of voters in heavily Democratic New York. In his acceptance speech, Astorino called for hydraulic fracturing for natural gas and the repeal of the state's new gun control law. He also attacked Gov. Andrew Cuomo for the state's property taxes being the highest in the country and vowed to repeal the state's Common Core curriculum.

He sounds like a fantastic candidate.
Too bad we didn’t run him back in 2010 instead of loose cannon Carl Paladino.
BTW his choice of running mate is Chemung County (Elmria) Sheriff Christopher Moss, who is the first Black Republican nominated for statewide office in NY. Moss is a harsh critic of Cuomo jr.’s “SAFE act” gun law.
“..Moss is a harsh critic of Cuomo jr.s SAFE act gun law. ..”
They will make a great team!
Rob Astorino bragged on how Sheriff Moss took Cuomo on.
I heard on radio that Sheriff Moss told Cuomo, we were voted into office, too, when Cuomo was giving Sheriffs a hard time.
Also, here are two TWITTER accounts, if anyone wants to give Astorino a follow. The first link has the most followers, as the second link is newer. I follow him on both, and Retweet on both.

And Junior chooses as his running mate, ousted Congresswoman Kathy Hochul.
It figures Cuomo had to pick a woman.
WGY radio, in the Capital District, asks could Cuomo lose the election. People are finally realizing that he’s not as strong as they originally thought.
Kathy Hochul was NRA endorsed but yet supported so-called SAFE Act. Disingenuous, wouldn’t you say.
You’d think the NRA would learn to stop endorsing democrats.
“Youd think the NRA would learn to stop endorsing democrats.”
Yup, you would think they’d learn. Sometimes I wonder about the NRA. They are a good group nationally, but in certain localities across the nation, they do some really dumb things. Some of them can’t recognize PHONIES.
btw, I bumped up a thread from 2012 re: Kathy Hochul, so folks would know what kind of anti-1st A. politician she is, as well as anti-2nd A. Here’s the thread, if anyone is interested:

Cuomo faced a stiff challenge for the Working Families Party ballot line from one “Zephyr Teachout”, but managed to win at their convention by a margin of 59-41.
That’s too bad, it would have been helpful for a third party leftist to steal a few percentage points from Cuomo (some polling suggested that Zephyr could have gotten over 20% but I don’t buy that).
Zephyr is an interesting character. She was part of the Howard Dean team in Iowa ... she is a writer, not a hack. An articulate leftwing populist.
Too bad she won’t on be on the ballot to takes votes from Cuomo Jr. She should have tried to get the Green nomination.
“..it would have been helpful for a third party leftist to steal a few percentage points from Cuomo ..”
For sure.
But the good new is, Rob Astorino has been called a long shot before, and ended up winning in a landslide.
And later Astorino was reelected because he did what he SAID he would do. Unlike Cuomo, who promised to help NY’s economy, but only cared about his radical liberal social agenda.
