RYE BROOK - New York Republicans have officially nominated Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino (R) as their candidate in the race for governor.
Republicans wrapped up their state party convention Thursday at the Hilton Hotel in Rye Brook after nominating Astorino. Other candidates nominated include Onondaga County Comptroller Bob Antonacci for comptroller and chief of staff to former Gov. George Pataki John Cahill as attorney general.
Astorino says his success in Westchester shows he can appeal to all kinds of voters in heavily Democratic New York. In his acceptance speech, Astorino called for hydraulic fracturing for natural gas and the repeal of the state's new gun control law. He also attacked Gov. Andrew Cuomo for the state's property taxes being the highest in the country and vowed to repeal the state's Common Core curriculum.

Hmmm, I notice he has the word rino in his name. Oh well, what can we expect from blue NY? Good luck to him, i guess.
Why do the ‘Pubs even bother? Like sending a marshmallow to put out a bonfire.
Agreed. All NY Republicans should follow Hannity and let the state cave in on itself.
The Current FReepathon Pays For The Current Quarters Expenses?
Rob is NOT a Rino. At least someone is trying to do something in this state.
Thanks NoKoolAidforMe.
“Why do the Pubs even bother? Like sending a marshmallow to put out a bonfire.”
Because anything can happen between now and November. If the Republicans did not have a candidate on the ballot and for some reason, Andrew Cummo had to step aside, we would lose any ability to contend for the seat.
Second reason, Since there is a candidate in NY, Andrew Cummo cannot be traveling the country stumping for other candidates.
I agree.
He’s a good and decent man.
I’ll vote for him just to spite commie, anti-Christian, ant-white, phony Cuomo.
Ping!!!
At this time in 1994, George Pataki was about in the same position vs. Mario Cuomo as Rob Astorino is now vs. Andrew, David vs. Goliath. In a big Republican year, Pataki ousted the entrenched Cuomo from his governorship. He won re-election twice thereafter. Could history repeat?
Astorino is articulate enough to get across a basic conservative message, but his big challenge will be to get his message out, and that in New York requires megabucks.
It’s impossible for a Republican to be entirely conservative in Westchester and get elected. But they do appreciate having someone straighten out their finances.
The same could be true of New York. Andrew Cuomo is a Mafia-type crook who covers his activities by appealing to the far left. As a result, the state needs someone to rein in the spending and cut taxes. I think even the NY libs may realize that—as they do from time to time in New Jersey, after some crooked lib has wrecked the economy again.
I like the guy, he is probably as conservative as you can get in the Empire state and he won re-election in a relatively liberal county.
BUT, this is NY state we’re talking about. Barring a major economic catastrophe or scandal, Andrew Cuomo will be re-elected ( and I won’t even vote for Cuomo ).
I can assure you that Rob is a real conservative. He won two times in Westchester because he was honest with the voters. He did what he said he was going to do. He would not be running if the election numbers were not achievable. Cuomo is running scared. He refuses to even acknowledge Rob by name. He is running despicable attack ads with blatant lies. If there is something you want to know about Rob, ask me.
I know him, I respect him and I trust him. He can win. However, I do not trust the GOP-e in this state which has perfected the art of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Right now, Hillary is feeding Preet Bharara lots of information about Sheldon Silver and Cuomo’s Moreland Commission. Expect an investigation against Cuomo to knock him out as a possible contender against her thighness. Rob won in 2009 after 12 years of tax and spend liberalism of Andy Spano. The HUD settlement was Spano’s final nail in his coffin. No one, no matter how liberal, wants the federal government to dictate local zoning and essentially dismantle it and have low income housing next to their million dollar mansion. When you are paying $50K-$100K a year in property taxes, you will not want a 50-unit low income housing project next to you. Neighborhoods are dictated by economics, not race.
That's a good point. While I don't expect the same thing to happen, it's certainly worth a try.
“At this time in 1994, George Pataki was about in the same position vs. Mario Cuomo as Rob Astorino is now vs. Andrew, David vs. Goliath. ..”
That is soooo good to hear. Plus, Astorino is a better candidate than Pataki, more likeable, and at the same time tougher than Pataki, and Astorino is truly conservative.
Also, Astorino was considered a long shot when he ran for County Executive in a Dem County, but yet won by a landslide, and was reelected.
“..While I don’t expect the same thing to happen..”
I think there’s an excellent chance that it could happen again, especially since Astorino strongly beat the odds in previous election (as I mentioned).
The Cuomo camp is nervous for sure, as they are already doing smear campaigns against Astorino. You usually don’t see this so early. Yup, Cuomo is nervous, and rightfully so. :)
Let’s write letters to editors, and/or call talk shows, to get Rob Astorino’s name out, and include his website, for anyone who wants to send him money.
Rob Astorino is prolife, strongly against Cuomo’s anti-2ndA. law, against common core, pro-fracking, and if you researched Astorino, you’ll find many more wonderfully conservative stands from him.
“..Hillary is feeding Preet Bharara lots of information about Sheldon Silver and Cuomos Moreland Commission. Expect an investigation against Cuomo to knock him out as a possible contender against her ..”
VERY interesting!
10,000 2nd Amendment patriots demonstrated in Albany after Cuomo’s (un)Safe Act was passed.
If each of those gave $50 to Rob Astorino’s campaign, he would have another $500,000. Wish I knew how to reach them. :)
It was great for them to stand up and be counted, but the next step is to support Astorino and vote Cuomo out of office!
