WASHINGTON -- What will become of the nation's capital?
The huge West Antarctic ice sheet is slowly collapsing, and two groups of scientists say the melting is now an unstoppable event.
Melting ice will cause sea levels to rise higher than initially projected, which is cause for concern for D.C.-area scientists and local urban planners.
The rising seas will affect local treasures, including the Chesapeake Bay and the country's iconic monuments along the National Mall.

Not terribly upsetting.
The coastal people refer to us as flyover country. I’m in flat Kansas and 1000’ above sea level. I think I will start referring to the East and West coast as boat over country.
Great, so we don't have to do anything.
At least 100 years to prepare...if it causes any problems at all.
Half of DC will be under water, the other half will be under indictment.
The classic experiment with ice cubes and water in a measuring cup, observing the liquid level and then letting it melt and observing it again, shows that floating ice is a net nothing to water level.
True, melted inland ice can add to ocean and waterway levels. There’s a lot of inland ice in such places as Antarctica and northern Canada. But it would take a LOT of warming to get the ice of regions that are well below the freezing point, to release itself.
In the meantime, if the AIR warms, it will pick up and hold more net water vapor. Some marginal desert areas may become arable that way.
Maybe God knew what He was doing after all when He invented water and all the rest of it. Because things are imperfect in this mortal coil doesn’t necessarily mean everything’s doomed to go to hell ahead of schedule.
But the actual increase is much lower than climate hysterics would have people believe. We have been measuring its since the 1800s and the rates of change has not increased in modern times.
Those cities or the place they stand were once under huge glaciers
LOL on the cat!
As was some of the Chicago area (the Chicago near north suburb called Skokie, which doesn’t border the lake though being close, is named, IIRC, from an American Indian word meaning swamp).
Liberal cities will be all wet.
Hey aren’t they all wet already? This will just confirm it.
lol
Temperature of ice sheet = -50F
Raise in temp since 1958 (according to cooked books) = 5F
So its gone from -55 to -50 within 55 years, if you believe their BS.
Time it would take for the ice sheet to get to 0F using their numbers = 500 years.
Their conclusion = OMG!!!!!!! We are all going to drown.
My conclusion = Idiots.
I think this is a terrific thing. Imagine touring DC in gondolas (like Venice). They’d drop you off at the Smithsonian or Lincoln Memorial.
Would really add to the tourist experience.
The assclowns have spoken!
Let’s start Operation Rubber Ducky.
Start calling up all the hotels and restaurants in Wash DC and ask them if they are closed. When they say they are open, tell them you don’t really believe that because you saw many pictures and news reports with pictures of the city underwater.
“wasn’t”
Now, my English is second language, but isn’t the proper verb tense present?
