Its difficult to judge an athletes true worth, even if on paper its clear theyre either a mega-loser or a mega-winner. But once you go beyond the stats and sabermetrics, and really take a look at what theyve done, you inch a little closer to uncovering their true value.
In the cases of these five, we found a whole lot of nothing. These are some of the most overrated performers weve ever seen, and they should probably pay back all the money theyve earned and go work at a Walgreens or something. Or CVS, if they prefer. Were not picky.
5. Wilt Chamberlain
...
Unfortunately, outside of a plethora of womens phone numbers, he rarely won anything significant. In basketball, the ultimate team sport, Wilt was seen as a bad teammate, somebody who cared more about HIS shots and HIS stats than helping his team win rings. He won two titles, though given his gaudy numbers, plus the fact that his teams made the playoffs every single year he played save one, he really shouldve won more.

4. Danica Patrick
...
Heres the issue: shes never won. Its not just that shes never won a Sprint Cup plenty of people have never done that. Its more that, with the exception of ONE RACE back in 2008, shes never won anything. Shes started over 230 races and won one. She rarely even finishes in the top ten. For somebody touted as a super-duper star, thats pretty pathetic.

To this day I believe Tiger Woods was doping.
Classic case of athlete who had unbelievable results while doping, then comes the injuries. Tries to make a comeback, but is never the same
I said that a good while back but got shredded by the Tiger boosters on FR.
PGA didn’t even start to test until 08, and that wasn’t universal.
Dennis Conner, hands down.
Some people have a hard time changing their belief systems. It is obvious if you watch the progress with opened eyes.
“I am going to dissent on Rodman. Forgetting about his crazyness, he was the main reason the Pistons won their titles, he revolutionized the game with his mastery of rebounding and his defense.”
I agree with this. And, although he certainly has always been...uhhh...”different”...he was a very good team player ON THE COURT (where it counted) for the Bulls. Defense is not sexy, and it doesn’t make you famous. It does, however, win games. He has a much more difficult early part of his life than most people (see wikipedia). I think that he did fairly well for himself, and a lot of that was hard work in addition to talent.
And as far QB rating, too bad they don't keep that stat for when the game is on the line. He is a choke artist pure and simple.
Yes, Romo has had his shot. He wasn’t a horrible QB but he’s not going to be going down as one of the best on any list.
I’ve heard that from other people too. I guess I never saw those games.
Honestly - putting Rodman on the list means the writer doesn’t understand “over-rated” and/or basketball
“Time for Tiger to be added to the list.”
Every day that he plays will diminish his legacy. He has had quite some time to turn it around.
I never understood the Danica Patrick thing....
Yeah, she’s an attractive woman, and she can drive. But that’s where it ends. A lot of people in the lower ranks can drive too, and better than she does.
Snicker.
not to mention the writer’s “logic” lacks consistency - Wilt is overrated because he “only” won two titles; but Rodman is too, and he won five? Pick a lane.
and btw Romo’s nickname at our house is “The AntiStaubach”. Roger had a 11-6 playoff record in only 8 seasons as a starter. Romo should be a second stringer.
Romo has as many playoff victories as Tim Tebow.
Brian Bosworth.
AS I have said on Bender’s NFL threads.....Dallas will never see another sb as long is Romo’s starting. How much has Jones spent on WR’s and OL for this scrub for no results?
The question isn’t how much has Jones spent on WRs, it’s how little has Jones spent on a quality defense. There’s only so much a QB can do, and when your defense does things like allow a TD on every single second half possession (twice last year) that’s not on the QB. It’s ridiculous how often Dallas scores 35+ points and still loses.
Journalist are mostly liberal and to a liberal history starts the day they were born! lol
