The Producer Price Index made available by the Bureau of Labor and Statistics this morning has now confirmed those fears. Consumers are seeing an immediate impact to their wallets in the form of food price inflation and in all likelihood the trend will continue going forward.
These latest numbers are serious. So much so that according to Zero Hedge, the last time food prices spiked by this much in one month, the resulting Arab Spring wave of revolutions tumbled governments across north Africa and the middle east.

Bush’s fault?
My suggestion would be to also consider buying and storing some long term freeze dried items as well as the standard gardening and canning efforts. My legacy stuff has a 25 year shelf life and the stuff is not bad tasting. It tends to be higher in sodium, a hypertensive no-no, but in a true emergency it`s lite weight and easy to transport.
keep this in mind Food stamp recipients have been cut 50.00 to 75.00 at least in the state of Michigan. the state receive less money from the feds as the stimulus money ran out in 2013.. In October a recipent I know went from 125.00 to 92.00, than in December down to 82.00 January to 75.00 and March down to 63.00. The recipient is screaming mad to. the Lifeline sponsored phone he lost the service too. Lower food stamps and no cell phone. The guy is running mad as hell, I told to get a job there are openings every where and he screams welfare gives him enough for rent and car, but why work. I simply rolled my wheelchair away as I sat in the doctors office awaiting the latest chemotherapy results.
Ribeye steak was $9.99 a Lb. tonight at the grocery. But there is no inflation....
Anyone that thinks there is any inflation is an OBVIOUS racist that hate the idea of a black president, right??
At that point, you are healthier than you have ever been.
Go for a walk or a run.
Fat isn't a natural thing...it is loaded with poison.
Get skinny and report back.
Enlighten please.
wow. bbaahhhh....
I dehydrate and can my own. I don have some can stuff like dry milk though.
Don’t forget to thank the Fed and the regulators for bringing this situation about.
Have you tried grass fed and/or organic beef? IMHO those taste like beef used to taste.
On the other hand, change of taste sometimes indicates a medical problem.
Darn bacon is almost 6 bucks a pound.
Are you sure it’s a pound? The packaged bacon is down to about 12 oz.
Just got back from buying groceries. Each month the same groceries cost me more and now I’m starting to find the shelves cleaned of some of my favourite things.
There are exceptions like SPAM has gone from $2.50 down to $2.38 a can. The selection has dwindled down to the basic varieties though.
I found my favourite brand of refried beans w/jalapenos had increased to .99 per can and I found only two cans available, both bent. They used to be .69 per can.
Canned vegetables have increased about 10 percent recently with some decreased in volume from 15 oz to 14 oz.
My favorite cheese crackers have remained around $2.50 per pkg. but the volume has been decreased twice in the last few months. Out of stock quite a bit lately too.
I am thankful I can still buy most things but if prices or availability change, I could be forced to use some of my emergency SHTF rations sooner than expected.
I try to keep a 90 day food supply on hand in case somebody pulls the plug. After that it beans, rice, and who knows what else is left over in my SHTF inventory. Planning beyond 90 days is iffy for me and I’ll probably be gone by then if conditions have not stabilized.
Have noticed meat counter are staying full. Not much buying is taking place till after the after four day markdowns.
Yeah 2.5lb package for almost 14 bucks.
What we have is HYPER INFLATION!! It is the end of our savings— our lives and our children’s future. We have been destroyed by bail outs to invester tranches bundled without recourse in order to finance home by Fannie and Freddie for low life’s who had no clue how to pay back. It was distribution of wealth by the communist master minds. Prepare for for desolation and rally tremendous demonstrations. Find them Punish them. !! Arm yourselves and stock food and water . Join with Neighbors of like mind. When the parasites come you will need numbers and bullets to protect your children from starvation. Get tough or get dead.
Are those usually more expensive? May be why I never try them.
Lately I eat a lot of lentils. They are so easy to cook and very good source of protein. I know because they cook so fast I end up burning them sometimes and the smell is just like when meat is burned. And They are still very cheap. Go great with Basmati rice and mango chutney.
Dehydration and freeze drying are different animals. I have a food dehydrator for fruit chips and jerky but to freeze dry you need very specialized equipment. BTW, ALWAYS deep freeze your beef before turning it into jerky, it kills potential parasites.
