A Michigan couple is furious after police shot and killed their 10-month-old lab-pit bull puppy in their own backyard.
Bianca Alakson and Ryan Showalter said their dog, Rock, was in their backyard Sunday morning when police began chasing a suspect through their Redford Township neighborhood, WDIV-TV reported.
Police said they saw their suspect in the couple's home. When officers went through the gate into the backyard to find the suspect, Rock charged, one officer said.
The officer fired one round, but when that didn't stop the dog, he fired a second, fatal shot.

WWOOOOooooooooooooo
lab-pit bull ?
Isn’t that the breed that will tear your arm off and then bring it back to you?
Thugs!
The solution?
A) Eliminate unions for civil servant - starting with the PBA and FOP
B) Require all law-enforcement to live in the jurisdiction in which they serve
C) Eliminate 20 and out - everybody else has to work a full lifetime for a pension and benefits
D)Civilian Review Boards
E) Civil volunteers auditing ALL classes in police “academies”.
F) Replace all Police “chiefs” with Public Safety Administrators who answer to and are subject to the civilian authority
G) End “swat teams” and other paramilitary trappings for every police establishment in the Country. These should only be in selected cities, not every burg and hamlet.
Do THAT and episodes like this and OTHERS when the party shot is an innocent civilian.
Dogs are territorial, much like humans, no?
If I enter your “territory”, are you or are you not going to come and “check me out”?
Why is it not “permissible” for the dog to do so, in a fenced yard at risk of it being killed? A dog is only following it’s natural instincts.
Should we now seek training for our dogs to roll over and play dead whenever they see a cop enter our yard in order for the dog to have a chance at surviving an encounter with a cop?
Seems like cops are using the “it charged me” gambit regardless of the dog’s actual intent in order to justify shooting them.
My dog, a Corgi mix of something, will come to “check you out” if you enter her territory (my yard), does she deserve to be shot because she’s “charging”?
“Rock charged?...case closed. Bury the dog.”
A quote from Jeff Spicoli comes to mind.
Has anyone done a study of the number of pet dogs shot by police officers over the last few years compare to a comparable time span, let’s say 30 years ago?
Just me, but it seems like the incidents of pets being shot, by those who are charged to protect society, is going through the proverbial roof.
So do we.
A great little dog!
They certainly are...
I’m so sick of these stories. Looks like the dog was a wonderful part of their family.
