The Spanish American war really was America's one imperialistic adventure, but you could easily argue that these colonies were much better off under American control than under Spanish.
But whats really a hoot is reading criticisms about American imperialism from Brits.

We inherited a stereopticon and some of the “slides” that it uses. They include a series from the Philippines in this war, mostly hospital shots. good insight into a war we don’t think about much.

My wife’s grandfather was 15 when he ran away from home and joined the US Navy.
He was there. We have letters addressed to him with “Spanish-American War Veteran’s Association” letterhead on them.
