Rare pictures of the U.S. Navy taken during the Spanish-American war have been unearthed after being found hidden away in storage by military archivists. A box, containing about 150 original glass plate photographs, was uncovered at the Naval History and Heritage Command in Washington DC, featuring images of all aspects of the war from logistics to diplomacy. They were only brought to light again when the photo archive team was preparing for a major renovation and archivists Dave Colamaria and Jon Roscoe stumbled across the pictures.

We inherited a stereopticon and some of the “slides” that it uses. They include a series from the Philippines in this war, mostly hospital shots. good insight into a war we don’t think about much.
That's what it said to me. Someone said "an early example of American Imperialism" and you just want to say "Yeah, the UK would never do that". They had a huge empire at one time - guy's an idiot.

My wife’s grandfather was 15 when he ran away from home and joined the US Navy.
He was there. We have letters addressed to him with “Spanish-American War Veteran’s Association” letterhead on them.
these colonies were much better off under American control than under Spanish.

I am distantly related to Adm. George Dewey. I believe his flagship the USS Olympia is still afloat in Philadelphia.
