Luke. Leia. Han. Chewie. Artoo. Threepio. All present and accounted for as StarWars.com unveiled the official cast of "Star War: Episode VII" Tuesday.
Here's the full release:
The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.
Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.
Director J.J. Abrams says, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."
Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on Dec. 18, 2015.
While original stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford had dropped hints that they would be reprising their roles for the new chapter, which takes place around 35 years after "Return of the Jedi," nothing was confirmed until today. The trio will be joined by longtime castmates Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Kenny Baker (R2-D2) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca).
New additions include Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver, who recently appeared together in the Coen brothers' 2013 folk music drama "Inside Llewyn Davis." Also onboard: Andy Serkis (best known as Gollum in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy), Domhnall Gleeson ("About Time",) and the legendary Max von Sydow ("The Exorcist"). Fresh faces John Boyega ("Attack the Block") and Daisy Ridley (who has appeared in just a handful of BBC dramas) round out the cast.
He was exquisite in ‘Rising Son (Sun)’
Max von Sydow.....
“Attack the Block”
Saw it. It sucked.
Could be worse.
Putting out the fire was classic. And the beer swilling dog.
Favorite exchange between those two:
“”Artoo! What are you doing here?” [R2-D2 chatters] “Well, I can see you’re serving drinks, but this place is dangerous.”
Lucas not being involved is a good thing. A very good thing.
I believe that is Mark Hamill in the lower left, with his head turned towards the camera, or to the lady on the couch.
if she begged you to take her to see it, seems to me you hit the jackpot!
“...This sounds more...”
Speaking of “sounds” - quick - name the first sound you remember from Star Wars...
For me, it was the “screaming” TIE fighters sweeping past on the screen, with the Doppler shift as they passed.
Neat sound effects...
Was that with Wesley Snipes? I don’t think I saw that one.
Will check it out. Thank you!!!
LOL, re: Teddy Bear Army.
Iirc the 2nd Death Star was orginally intended to have been constructed over the Wookie home planet, by Wookie slave labor. But for some reason Lucas decided to go with the Ewok home planet instead.
I’ve heard it was money related ... Either going with the Ewoks were cheaper and he was at his budget limit, or they presented a new sales channel for making additional marketing cash. Knowing Lucas it was probably the latter.
Had they gone instead with an army of enslaved Wookies rising up against their oppressors ...
Well, I’ll leave it at that.
“...Could be worse...”
Sure could!!! Just can’t get past how much she looks like Pelosi..
Yeah, she was a good one. Broke up about a year later, but fun while it lasted!!!
Except TNG had three captains chairs.
It looked like command by coffee clatch.
She probably learned that role from her mother. In these pictures, she does look like the crazy girlfriend in “Two and a Half Men”. Is that a flame-thrower?
Amen! Lil Annie Darthy was a joke. This is a pretty homely new cast. I won`t see it. After 3o+ years a fan I don`t want to see the end of something when I never saw the middle. They waited too long. I DO hope they kill off Solo promptly_ and ugly. It`s a formulaic cliche character who served no purpose after delivering his passengers in ANH. Ford might not live to do more than one either. At 74 he`s gone as far as he can with scowling and mumbling.
Hahah!!! “We brake for nobody!”
Nice graphic!
