Its been debated for years, but now the city of Minneapolis has decided to change from celebrating Columbus Day to observing Indigenous Peoples Day instead.
Columbus Day has been a federal holiday since 1937, though not all states observe it, including Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon, and South Dakota.
The day has long been a hot button issue over whether it is offensive to the American Indian culture to credit Christopher Columbus with the discovery of America.
On Friday, the Minneapolis City Council voted unanimously to approve the proposal to rename the day Indigenous Peoples Day.
The designation would be observed on all city communications.

What a bunch of yankee faggots.
I don’t recall any indigenous people erecting ocean worthy ships and crossing the Atlantic.
I guess real achievement is ripping out hearts to appease a serpent spirit or piling up dirt mounds.
How many people in Minneapolis even know what “indigenous” means?
They’ll probably riot because they think it means lazy.
I say let them continue to rename all the holidays and sports teams to their heart's delight and just ignore - or ridicule - them. The rest of us can continue to call them what we want.
Why would indigenous people celebrate Columbus’s birthday? Make it a day of mourning. Hey....I’m just trying to draw logical conclusions from this nonsense.
Back when Columbus was regarded as a hero and great explorer, Malcolm X said that Columbus was a black guy.
I think the libtard protestors should head into the ‘hood to protest the genocidal black Columbus.
How about National Casino and High Stakes Bingo Day.
It brought them about 1000 years into the future. Not by the most elegant of means though, but it was going to happen one way or the other.
According to the description I have, it was worse than the picture shows. He was tied like this, then muskets without balls were discharged into his skin to allow the powder to burn him, then they rushed forward and cut off his ears, the fires around were lit so he would not burn quick but slowly roast. The next morning there was nothing but ashes and a few bones left.
Oh Good Gawd.
I am mostly “Indigenous” and I think this is STOOPID!
Also, I think the term “Indigenous” is STOOPID as well. I am an AMERICAN.
Remember how the U.N. through its agency UNESCO tried to usurp Halloween?
Kids across the nation were urged to carry square UNESCO boxes door-to-door on their trick or treat forays to collect money for this anti-Israel globalist agency.
The ploy petered out, but the Left never rests. What holiday and what American tradition will be the next target they will try to hi-jack or destroy? We know Easter is on the top of their list right now.

So, they are bending over backwards to prove how liberal they are?
They have to target Thanksgiving also, because liberals believe that day is also a sore spot with American Indians.
Probably all holidays except Martin Luther King’s birthday, according to liberal criteria, will have to be done away with or re-named, with a different focus for what the day represents.
Minneapolis is lost!
It's Columbus Day.
And "indigenous people?" You lost.
I’m waiting to see which holiday now gets re-branded as “Androgynous Persons Day” ....
In Hawaii, it is “Discoverer’s Day”. They reenact the first barbecue with James Cook as the guest of honor.
As a general once said: “You can’t fix stupid”.
Maybe they should have changed it to Lief Ericson Day considering the ethnic heritage of a lot of Minnesotans.
