We grew lots of corn in the family garden I hated as a child (hated the garden not the corn). Lots of fresh creamed corn and her canned cream corn in the winter. I had the finest of veggies growing up and thought everyone had those veggies and I thought nothing of it. I remember going to a Sunday dinner at a friend's house when I was around 6 or so, and thought they were strange since there was no hot cornbread on the table - just “light bread” as we called it then.
My body had all the right foods and plenty of it and I didn't appreciate any of it. I kept my head in books and traveled away from there in my books. Someone should have taken me to some place where people didn't have enough food. As far as the starving children in other countries, that wasn't an item in those days. We never heard that. Everyone I knew had plenty of food and the subject never came up.
I did know the adults talked about a “poor farm” where people were but that didn't mean anything to me as no one explained what that was like or how someone got there. I don't know when those went away.
Everyone was concerned that I didn’t eat enough,I ate very slow, and was always underweight as a child. So they were always nagging me to eat.
The thing I heard the most was : There’s starving kids in China that would love to have that.
Here’s a link to eating some of the veggies that we grow on here. Do you, or do you not like it? That’s the question.
