In 31 years of broadcasting, and 40 years of writing, I have never advocated a boycott of a product.
Quite the opposite, in fact.
During the 2012 presidential campaign, when the left attempted to destroy Chick-Fil-A for its owner's views on same-sex marriage, I suggested on my radio show that the Republican candidate, Mitt Romney, stand in front of a Chick-Fil-A restaurant while enjoying some Ben and Jerry's ice cream. In that way, I argued, he could show one of the great moral differences between the right and the left. Though Ben and Jerry are leftists, we conservatives do not believe that company owners' views should matter to consumers. We believe that products should speak for themselves. If the ice cream is good, despite whatever repugnance we might feel regarding the views of the makers of that ice cream, we will still purchase it.
The left does not see things that way. The left is out to crush individuals and companies with whom it differs. This is especially so today on the issue of same-sex marriage.
Perhaps the most dramatic example of this took place last week. The governing board of the widely used browser, Firefox, forced the company's CEO, Brendan Eich, to resign. The Firefox board had learned that in 2008, Eich donated $1,000 to the Proposition 8 campaign in California. Proposition 8 amended the California Constitution to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman. In classic Communist fashion, gay rights organizations demanded that Eich publicly recant. When Eich did not, gay rights and other leftist organizations called for a boycott of Firefox. Firefox immediately forced Eich out.
All these years, the left, after coining the term "McCarthyism" in order to disparage the right, had fooled most people into believing that it is the right that suppresses liberty. The truth, of course, has been the opposite. Worldwide, with the exception of Nazi Germany (which was a uniquely race-based totalitarianism, neither left nor right -- while it rejected Marxist class-based struggle, it supported socialism ("Nazism" was short for National Socialism), every genocidal totalitarian regime of the 20th century was leftist. And domestically, too, the left has much less interest in liberty than in forcing people to act in accord with its values. A totalitarian streak is part of the left's DNA. How you think matters and what you do away outside of work matters: More than 20 states prohibit judges from being leaders in the Boy Scouts -- because the left deems the Boy Scouts homophobic.
During the McCarthy era, the left (and not only the left) screamed when people were falsely charged with supporting Stalin and Communism, one of the greatest evils in human history. But the left also screamed when people who really did aid and abet Stalin were dismissed from their jobs. In other words, for those on the left who celebrate Eich's ouster, it was evil to deprive a man who supported Stalin of a job, but it is right to fire a man who supports the man-woman definition of marriage. Such is the left's moral compass.
It is important to further note that gay employees at Firefox acknowledge that Eich never discriminated against gays, whether in employment, benefits or any other way. But that doesn't matter to the left because a totalitarian streak is part of the left's DNA.
As Princeton Professor of Jurisprudence Robert George warned on my radio show, today the left fires employees for opposition to same-sex marriage. Tomorrow it will fire employees who are pro-life ("anti-woman"). And next it will be employees who support Israel (an "apartheid state").
The reason to boycott Firefox is not that it is run by leftists. Nor is the reason to support the man-woman definition of marriage. It is solely in order to preserve liberty in the land of liberty. If Firefox doesn't recant and rehire Eich as CEO, McCarthyism will have returned far more pervasively and perniciously than in its first incarnation. The message the gay left (such as the Orwellian-named Human Rights Campaign) and the left in general wish to send is that Americans who are in positions of power at any company should be forced to resign if they hold a position that the left strongly opposes.
And right now that position is opposition to same-sex marriage.
Think about that. In the United States of America today, the belief that marriage should remain defined as the union of a man and woman is portrayed as so vile by the left that anyone who holds it is unfit for employment.
A handful of those on the gay (and straight) left have spoken out against the forced resignation of Eich. If their words are to mean anything, they must join in the call to boycott Firefox. Otherwise, their protestations are meaningless, made solely to preserve their moral credibility.
The battle over Firefox is the most important battle in America at this particular moment. If you use Firefox, uninstall it. Instead use Internet Explorer, Chrome, Opera, Safari, or try Pale Moon for Windows, which is based on the Firefox engine and will import all of your bookmarks. For mobile devices, you can try Puffin.
America can have liberty or it can have Firefox. Right now, it cannot have both.
Never installed it on this machine. I was tired of all the crashes related to faulty plug-ins anyhow.
Do I delete Firefox first or after I download Pale Moon. I’m short of time and coffee as medical appointment looming in minutes. Thanks
There was a time in this country when good people refused to allow evil to take over their communities. They banded together to shun & reject evil residents, refusing to do business with them or even acknowledge them in any way. Evil people were strongly urged to leave & never return.
These tactics worked. They are working now for the Left. There was never any question of the rightness of these tactics. Good people just don't associate with bad people.
Every conservative should scrutinize their business/personal relationships & end those with people & businesses that support perversion & deviancy.
I just removed Mozilla Firefox from my computer. Bye bye perverts. You need my business, I can do without yours.
Individuals & businesses are free to support whatever they wish, just as I am free to spend or NOT spend my money any way I please. I chose not to support/enrich those who peddle perversion.
For every one of those Ben & Jerry's cones we eat a portion of the profits goes to promote perversion & denigrate decent people. We might as well send a box of ammo directly to GLAAD.
This is a war being waged on YOU. Your life & livelihood are seriously threatened. You had better get involved.
Nope, don’t delete a thing. Just make PM your default browser and also download the app that migrates all of your bookmarks. It is really seamless and only take a few minutes. I do like Opera better overall but the bookmarks toolbar thing screws that up. I have sent a request to the Opera people to ask for a better way of importing to the toolbar and not just the dropdown bookmark icon.
I uninstalled Firefox and it didn't ask me why I was leaving.
Hate it when I can't post a really good rant.
Not to be so literal, go ahead and uninstall Firefox once you see things operating correctly on BM
Well said!
I am Freeping on Torch.
I run Ubuntu 12.04 and changed yesterday to Madori.
Works fine.
I’ve got Opera on my iMac. Very fast!
Pale Moon is from “Moonchild Productions”.
What makes you think they aren’t a bunch of liberals who would do the same thing if their CEO made a politically incorrect contribution?
Liberalism is the same **** wherever you find it.
I generally agree, but if the state wasn’t involved with marriage, most all of the financial implications would be removed from it.
If anything, marriage can harm people regarding taxes, depending on their particular circumstances. I know for sure in our case, we are actually disadvantaged financially by being married. We would do FAR better with our taxes and related matters if my wife and I were just ‘shacking up’, but that isn’t what WE want, and definitely not what we want for our children. It’s unfortunate that being married is a financial sacrifice. If the state weren’t involved, this wouldn’t be the case.
Given how people generally are these days(look at the rates of divorce), and the financial penalties involved, gay people shouldn’t WANT to be married. To me, this reveals their real motivation, which is hoping to invade and ‘stick it to’ traditionally married people, particularly religious people. Notice how they aren’t even happy with state recognized ‘Civil Unions’. They insist on it being “marriage”, because they believe it will be the most culturally intrusive/offensive to others. Gay marriage is nothing more to them than another ‘notch’ on their belt or objective for their battle on road to “progress”.
When they eventually DO get their way on ‘Gay marriage’(face it - Leftists NEVER quit until they get their way), I’d bet their divorce rates will be staggering. Probably double that of ‘straight people’, but that won’t really matter to them. The end result is what they view is another traditional institution torn down and destroyed, and that’s what they’re all about for the most part.
You got that right. The lawyers will love it, though, lots of money to be made. Most politicians are lawyers too, so that's why they are supporting gay marriage to the extent that they are.
Welcome to the Pale Moon project homepage Pale Moon is an Open Source, Firefox-based web browser for Microsoft Windows, focusing on efficiency and ease of use. Make sure to get the most out of your browser!
Traditional marriage (one man+one woman), as an institution, has intrinsic human value and benefits society, regardless of whether or not it's sanctioned by the State.
Most get their basic understanding of themselves, their gender identity and how to relate to the opposite sex from observing both mom and dad. Remove one during childhood, at such a crucial time of development, and it's not surprising to see anger, various forms of arrested development, along with sexual identity issues.
Unless they're overcome, these things are then passed along to the next generation in a vicious downward cycle.
For these reasons, it's in society's best interest to sanction traditional marriage, imho.
I had just moved from Outlook 2003 to Thunderbird a week before this all erupted. NOW I have to change again?
The same way it's handled now. By Judges in a 'family court'.
I believe this is related to why children and younger adults tend to be so screwed up these days, and by extension, society over all. I think it started with the children of the 'baby-boomers', and has really picked up steam.
When I was in high school during the 90s, I knew ONE person that still had both of their original parents married and living together. Right now, I'm the only person I know out of all of the people I knew and went to school with that is still married to the same person with our children. My wife and I married very young, and were COMMITTED to giving to our children(when we eventually had them) that which we never had....A functional family.
People are so morally bankrupt. Seems every week I'm hearing of married people engaging in infidelity, and families breaking up because of it. Not only are they betraying their spouse, but their children as well. It isn't only the men either. If anything, from my observation, women are every bit as bad if not worse. It disgusts me how people can make such a permanent mistake that will breakup their families and affect their children forever, all because of some physical attraction or sexual adventurism.
